Everything towards the end leads towards Tim Robbins committing suicide (becoming quiet and withdrawn, acquiring rope, etc...), but then you find out for the last few years he's been digging a tunnel behind his fit-bird poster with a spoon, or something (been a while since I last saw it), and he escapes through a sh*t pipe.

It wasn't a spoon. It was the little pick axe thingy he used for his rocks!

Ps. And when Freemans character is out on parole he goes to the hill that Tim Robbins told him about, finds a box with money and what not and then goes to Mexico to be reunited with his friend. In a place with a funny name.

It's Zijuatanejo, I've been there but it's not as nice as it shows in the movie.

It's a great film with a great ending, especially Norton the warden losing it in the cell.
