They were the origional, 'working titles' for the seven dwarves! *thinks*...

They all have at least two pairs of letters, as in 'potato' has two 'o's and two 't's.

But VIP is correct in saying that someething they have in common is that they all have two pairs of identical letters, so that's not really an incorrect answer.

I guess you could say that they all contain a pair of letters forward and reversed, though that's completely hidden in the the last word.

I might sound thick, but I didn't really follow it, as I free play on a game site called pogo

I thought they were three words that fitted the pattern of your original seven. If they aren't, then I've failed to solve your puzzle.

OK - so it's nothing to do with the letters.

1-4 are nouns, 5 and 7 are verbs and 6 is an adjective. - So that's not it, then.

They are of very varied etymological origin, no commonality there, so that's not it either.

Some of them are made into plurals by adding "s" and some by "es" so that's not it either. Not really much of a criterion in English anyway.

They are all such ordinary, mundane words.

The meanings have no *apparent* connection. So that must be it. Some field which uses these words - maybe for caterpillars / butterflies / parts of the brain?

in the mail I received from my mate, it also said "you'll kick yourself when you see the answer"
