I don't follow football, sorry, it just doesn't interest me...
But on my local radio station I hear that Grimsby Town have sacked their manager, as they are now 2nd bottom in the league, after losing two home games.
Surely he didn't lose the match... haven't the 11 footballists on the field who fail to kick the in the other team's net got something to do with it?

NO... As I understand it (and I loath football and don't follow it really).
The procedure is:
If a team does well, its all down to the players.
If they do badly, its the manager or director who needs to be sacked

It sort of depends why they lost...
The manager picks who plays, is in charge of their training and strategy... If he's picking the wrong players, telling them to play the wrong way etc, then they will find someone who can do a better job of organising a bunch of leggy children with a penchant for round leather things

>>round leather things<<
Oooh!! No, no, no!! Can't have the darlings hurting themselves on hard leather things
Only the best of light-weight plastic will do

well, I have my beady eye on a footballer at the moment and I hate to admit it but he does look good running after the ball like a happy terrier.
Funny cos I had zero interest in football not that long ago

Right, team. Here's what I want you to do.
Kick the round thing ...
Aim it at the white sticks with the fishing net behind it (you're from Grimsby, yo should know what that is) - but aim at the one that *doesn't* have your friend in...
(Apparently they lost last week due to an own goal!)

I quite like the sweaty hair as well.

Urrhh! Sweaty hair? I suppose next you'll be saying you like the smell of their armpits! Urrhh!
Anyway, when I was at school, we played rugby - a much more sensible game 'cos you could kick the ball OR pick it and run.
I've liked playing with odd shaped balls ever since - my doctor says it's nothing to worry about
