Ashes, Narrowly Avoiding the Sackcloth
Pinniped Started conversation Jul 12, 2009
Have we really just completed the 1st Test of an Ashes series without anyone discussing it? If I've missed an established thread, then please guide me to it.
If I haven't, well, that was a bit different, wasn't it?
Things we've learned in the last five days:
- Broad and Swann are not what he'd hoped in this company.
- Panesar is in for his batting.
- Welsh groundsmen must die.
- You can lose 19-6 in terms of wickets, 4-0 in terms of centuries and 11-0 in terms of man-for-man performance, but you can still draw.
Things we've been reminded of in the same period:
- Cook chokes.
- KP is a feckless pillock.
- Freddie makes things happen.
- Strauss is the second-least imaginative captain in cricket. After Ponting.
- Once you've lost your sporting dignity and given up any hope of actual entertainment, then that's the time that Colly will finally prove to be useful.
- There is nothing in this world so satisfying as Aussie press conferences when they know they just threw it away.
