in the film the matrix
after neo says "we need guns, lots of guns", we get the scene where loads of racks of guns apear???????why?????
in the matrix guns are just bits of code
you dont need to store loads and loads of guns, you just "copy and paste" them
WTF??????

Because it looks good, and perhaps because that's the way his mind wanted to see them... It's all about the user interface

Most sci-fi doesn't really think things through. For example, in Star Trek and so forth, why is "down" always the same (ships always meet the same way up) even for the aliens? Is there a gigantic space magnet providing a true north for the universe?

The X series of games deals with that nicely with something called an elliptical plane (I think), but i don't know how it works

elite doesn't bother with it, you adjust your rotation in relation to the system and other ships when you enter the system or encounter them

Oolite is a game inspired by Elite, powered by Objective-C and OpenGL(hence the "oo" bit of its name). It is available for the Mac OS X, MS Windows, and Linux operating systems. It is also free being a community driven open-source project.
There are also a number of add-ons available and if anyone does try the game may I suggest that they install the "Lave" add-on when they install the game (it tarts up the system you start the game in) - you can find a list of Oolite add-ons on the Elite wiki at http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/OXP

Do the games contain some kind of 'egg'? As oolites are sedimentary rock forms that get the name of the egg-like/spheroid structures it contains.
