You're going on the last ship leaving the earth. You are not allowed your CD & MP3 players or your PC You possess only an old battery powered cassette recorder (remember those?) , but have time to save only 12 tracks from your vinyl, . Which tracks would you save? (no more than 2 tracks by the same artist).

Thes would be mine....

Bob Seeger - Little Victories
Bob Dylan - Tangled up in Blue
Stones - Street Fightin' Man
Christie Moore - Burning Times
Shakira - La Tortura (Remix)
Joan Baez - Farewell Angelina
Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit
Tim Buckley - Pleasant Street
Pavlov's Dog - Natchez Trace
Eagles - New Kid in Town
Janis Ian - Water Colours
Bob Dylan - Don't think Twice, It's Allright

Br Robyn Hoode - Navo - complete with theme tune

Night Train - Guns n Roses
Some other track off Appetite for destruction, dont care which, after night train I dont have one favourite!
Black Magic Woman - Santana
Maria Maria - Santana
Cemetary Gates - Pantera
Cowboys From Hell - Pantera
Billie Jean - Michael Jackson
The Way You Make Me Feel - Michael Jackson
Something by Eric Clapton, not sure what, but I'd need to take him with me.
Jennifer Lost The War - The Offspring
Bad Habit - The Offspring
My last two would have to be picked from the Diana Ross/Luther Vandross sort of genres... I'm not sure which ones though.

If I could give up some food for an extra bonus track I'd have Pantera's cover of Planet Caravan.

W, Oh yes, I've been playing some of my old Joan Baez stuff in the last few days. Lotsa Dylan covers there....

Yes, indeed, I should think Joan Baez has done more Dylan covers than anyone. Judy Collins did quite a lot, as well, and I rather like some of hers.

Hi, Thut, how's it going?

You don't seem to have attracted too many responses here so far, but at least there's no bickering. Do you know any pomes that contain the word 'soup'? AHL has me stumped with that one.smiley - cheers

Hi W how's this? :

When the cabin port-holes are dark and green
Because of the seas outside
When the ship goes wop (with a wiggle between)
And steward falls into the soup-tureen,
And trunks begin to slide;
When Nursey lies on the floor in a heap,
And Mummy tells you to let her sleep,
And you aren't waked or washed or dressed,
Why, then you will know (if you haven't guessed)
You're "Fifty North and Forty West!"

Rudyard Kipling

After a bit of thought, and only a bit, here’s my first draft list. It reflects favourite artists rather than favourite tracks – most of them are chosen for sentimental reasons because I associate them with particular times or events in my life, since choosing favourites is impossible. Couldn’t we be allowed to take 12 albums? One thing wrong with this list is the shortage of upbeat numbers. I’ll have to make another.

Bob Dylan – Ballad In Plain D
Neil Young - After The Gold Rush
Judy Collins – Hey, That’s No Way To Say Goodbye
Leonard Cohen – Please Don’t Pass Me By
Kris Kristofferson – Sunday Morning Coming Down
John Denver – Rocky Mountain High
Simon & Garfunkel – Bridge Over Troubled Water
Jackson Browne – Late For The Sky
Joni Mitchell – almost anything from Blue, Case Of You perhaps.
John Baez – Mary Hamilton
The Eagles – Doolin-Dalton-Desperado Reprise
The Beatles – Let It Be

Thut, I’m planning to take a break from the MBs. I’m getting a little weary of people who don’t seem to be able to enjoy themselves without spoiling other people’s enjoyment. Cortez invaded the pome thread last night with his unique brand of anarchy. His forays are usually humorous and brief, but that didn’t seem to be the case this time. Or maybe I’ve just lost my SOH. I don’t suppose I’ll manage to stay away for long, so BCNU.

Hi W,
12 albums would make it too easy (well, easy-er anyway, smiley - biggrin). I hope you and me (I?) are both on that last ship out, you can listen to mine if I can listen to yours.... I'm impressed with most of your choices, tho' I'm not too sure about John Denver. Still, perhaps it was one of you 'sentimental' choices.
I'm going to have to make some changes to my list; how could I not take 'One Too Many Mornings'? But which to leave behind? Decisions, decisions!

I can understand your feelings about the MBs, it's all so unnecessary. I'm persevering for a while, but avoiding/ignoring certain people wherever possible, but it's still a pain.
Don't stay away too long and keep in touch smiley - smiley
