when I grow up..
STRANGELY STRANGE ( A brain on a spring ) Posted Apr 27, 2006
When I was younger I alays wanted to be a lead rock guitarest.
We are talking here of the days of Hendrix when lead guitarests were called "Rock Gods".
The reality is I can't play guitar and suffer Tinnitus from watching, taking photos of, too many rockbands.
....I miss the days when lead guitarests had more musical prominence(sp?) than now.

First I wanted to go to sea, but then boring men told me to do boring things, on forms, in triplicate, so I left the Navy.
Then I wanted to hit bits of metal and make things, but the hours were long and the wages rotten.
Then I wanted to be a writer, so I became a Stage Manager
Then I gave up wanting to be anything and just took what life sloppped onto my plate.
Life has been one very interesting roller-coaster ride ever since. I've worked all over the UK, ran my own businesses, met loads of people and done things I didn't think people actually did. I meet my old schoolfriends and, whilst they might have had the career path they always wanted, I have more experience of life & the world than they can ever imagine.

When I were little, under 8 anyway, I wanted to be a museum curator. I even wrote to the curator of the natural history museum asing how to go about it.
They actually replied and encouraged me to study hard (as they would really) and sent me some of their educational dinosaur stuff (colouring book and poster). Which I think was cool. I still wouldn't mind having followed that route.

What was/is your most fanciful ambition?
When I grow up, I want to travel the world, teaching those I meet how bleak life can be, without color, humor, & a second chance to screw up!!

I wanted to be a Rock Star too, but life got in the way. Now I'm on the other side of it all, I've gone through the conforming thing and I've grown my hair long wear scruffy clothes to work and play in my band part-time, and I play when I want and where I want. Much better than having to do it with all the associated pressures.

Me too. I'm pleased I remembered how much fun music is, and /stopped/ trying to be a rockstar and started getting in to playing again.
