If you can't find Guiness, Caffrey's is also good as a liquid food!

Caffrey's gives me indigestion. Guinness is only worth drinking in Dublin, as it doesn't travel very well. Recommend the Temple Bar area if you want a really good pint.

Try Guinness Extra Cold or their new white beer, Guinness Breo.

Personally, I only drink Stella - reassuringly expensive still.

Actually Guinness is best drunk at the Guinness factory in Dublin as it doesn't even travel to Temple Bar that well! smiley - smiley I know I've now researched this heavily on two occassions!

Yep, Guinness is probably the only pint worth drinking...

...if the pub runs out of Smithwicks (or Kilkenny as the german Distributor calls it
- if pronounced properly your in for a beat up because of using dirty language).

Your reference to Olde Peculiar is incorrect. The beer is called Old Peculier, this is a reference to the magistrate of the village of Masham.

Your experience of stronger beers must be very limited if you think they are all crap. Some are brewed just for their strength and I agree with you that these are crap, these are brewed quickly leaving sugars in the final product giving it a syrupy texture. Many small breweries allow the beer to ferment fully and give the beer time to mature (much longer for strong beers), resulting in a excellent beer. The problem with such beers is that they do not taste as if they are strong, you only detect the strength when you try to leave the bar stool.

And this is a problem how??? Ah...I (vaguely) remember one beer called Buck from a small BierGarten somewhere in germany...twas nearly black, but tasted divine...and the falling, and the jokes, and the hangover...oh, the sweet hangover...

Caffey's is muck.
Guinness is great in Dublin, but down the country is still a nice pint. Travelling aside, it's cheaper!
Breo tastes like Budweiser!

Sorry, I'm being all opinionated, I know...but hey...

Nick, you a fellow Irish??

Caffreys always gives me chronic wind and major toilet difficulties! ooer parp quack!

The best I have tasted is definately Black Sheep. Some places is a little pricey, but a nice beer to get blathered on and watch Blackadder re-runs. (As I did last Saturday night)

Hiya Nicko,
So which of the Black Sheep beers do you prefer. I know for myself it has to be the Riggwelter at 5.9%. My head hates me for it but my tongue loves me.

what the HELL is a black sheep beer????
Is it a brand or wot??

Guinness is all grand and all, but DAMN you people are revering it a bit too much on it's own, instead of realising that it is another member of that all grand family, alcohol. And all alcohol is good in it's own right. And the cheaper the better! That's one reason that I drink Guinness, cheaper. But, here in the student bar, Fosters comes with a dollar and for every three dollars, you get a free pint, so that's a good thing. And that's what I drink here. And for cans, you can't beat Dutch Gold or Carling (cheap!!!).

ahhhh...that's better!

Oh, and Nick, if Caffery's does your stomach in, what does Guinness do to you??? The morning after that is. I mean, NEVER mix Guinness (lots of) and rice. You will pebble-dash the toilet something fierce! smiley - winkeye

Black Sheep is the name of a brewery, I could give you the full history but I don't think that you want it.
As for cheap alcohol? I think that I tend to pay a little bit more and get something palatable. I won't pay a lot for booze, I don't see the point. But cheap beer is usually crap. There are exceptions but they tend to be few are far between.

But really. It's all alcohol! One of the major food groups! And I'm a student anyway, so it stands to reason that cheap is better. For me.

We had a management lecture the other week (I do Electronic Engineering and we can choose managment, it's great!) and the lecturer was going on about brands and customer loyalty. So he asked us "Who here drinks the same type of beer whenever they go out??" and loads of us put up our hands. So he asked one bloke "What sort do you drink?" and the guy replied "The cheapest." and everyone went "Damn that was my joke" so we all had to put our hands down again.

On reflection, that's a REALLY crap story. Needs to be told face to face with a lot of drink in you. In fact, could you go and get drunk and then come back here again and read it?? Please?? Pwetty Pwease?? Just for me?? smiley - winkeye

Also, living in the states for a few months tends to help on the whole "being able to drink beer even if it goes down like razor blades" thing. The beer in that country is foul!! So we just went for the Natty Ice...mmmmm...3 dollars a 1/2 crate. SO cheap! Like the cigarrettes!

Hmmmm...you're not american, are you?? Odds are you are though...doh! smiley - winkeye The Labatt's Blue in Hooters (our local in OH) was nice, but that's Canadian...oh well...

But it's true!! I had my first night without drink in a week last night and so the toilet is OK, but jeez! Before that, I was destroying it on a twice daily basis! Once at night and once in the morning...

All that gas and stuff gotta go somewhere...

Ewww....
