h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

The preamble is the only hope for the salvation and survival of 'Mate' and the Australian male. It is 'legislation' by the 'skirt fearing' politicians that have made the Australian male a second class citizen in his own 'Matedom'! It is now against the law to speak the Australian idiom to a woman. Where have all the 'Sheilas' gone Mate?

actualy, i use "mate" to people i don't really like.
for example,

"hey, stop this, mate!"
or:
"watch your language, mate!"

that kind of.
i would never call any of my friends "mate".
maybe it's because i usualy speak Hebrew...
erm...

You have excellent taste Tiptip. I think all people who use mate, also use it when they're angry. As in "Mate, I'd start running if I were you...".

....and "Hey mate I'd drop that before you find yourself lying on the floor, bleeding"

Ohhh! Steady on there Mates! Mate can only be used in 'tounge in cheek' anger! C'mon Mates! All for one and one for all!

hey, you can try:
"hey mate, think fast"
and throw a vase in your mate's face.
i wonder how many mate's there'll be left after trying this....
