If you had allowed this to happen to your child, wouldn't you seek confirmation again and again that it wasn't your fault ?

Well not confirmation but affirmation that they are afterall good parents.
They must be plagued by thoughts that Maddie's fate was down to their failures. The whole thing might be a useful wake-up call for those whose parenting had become lax in similar ways but the McCann bandwagon probably wont help Maddie one bit even if she is alive. Look at the Fritzl case, there several children were held captive right under the noses of an entire village and it only came out by a series of chances.
Still it gives lazy journalists an easy chance to pull at the heart strings.
Wonder if the McCanns ever think about donating any of the money raised to help organisations with proven track records of re-uniting parents and stolen children who happen not to be as phtogenic as Maddie, to help their work.

The media (and other) attention this particular case gets has never sat well with me. I don't have an opinion on who did it, but there's just something really odd about all this *waves hands vaguely*; all the press coverage, meeting the Pope, remembrance events attended by people who never even knew the family, and so on...
Nothing is true, everything is permitted.

Yes I think the problem is why oh why does this case keep getting so much publicity? And now years later the Met are to spend goodness knows how much money on a new inquiry.
Could you imagine some scrawny ugly little urchin left alone by a single parent for an hour getting the PM to order the Met to do another inquiry years later?
They are wealthy and well educated and obsessive. It sticks in my craw.
And the media can market the images.
