novosibirsk - as normal as I can be........ Started conversation Jan 5, 2007
Morning all,
We hear so much about the state of thr NHS here in the UK, much is critical, so I would just like to pay a huge thank you to our local cataract centre.
I had a lens replacement into my right eye, on Wednesday.
Thankfully it seems to have been successful - thy centre was scrupulously clean the staff were unfailingly polite, kind, and cheerful. The whole routine took about 1 hour , the actual operation about 20 minutes. Since it is done under local anaesthetic only ,evrything I would see, feel, and hear was explained beforehand.
A cup of tea was made afterwards while I got the follow up instructions.
I will write to the centre this weekend voicing the feelings in this post, because the folk there deserve my thanks.

Good to hear someone say nice things about the NHS... though if I were you I'd've held out for a bionic eye.

Yes, amongst all the horror stories the vast majority of NHS operations are performed without problems. My daughter had a successful operation just before Christmas too.
However, I see the latest idea is to close hospitals and have 'mobile surgeries' in 'community locations' to cut waiting lists.
In my area this means a pantechnican in a garden centre and two operative wards closed for day surgery. It seems to be the government's intention to give us a third world health system. It can't be long before the Russian eye-surgery liner is anchored at Tilbury.
