This may not be a big deal for those with good perambulatory skills but those who, like me, are tridactyl and require an additional perambulatory appendage, have a definite disadvantage. in more ways than one!!!

This evening, just walking 300 metres from my local to my flat, involved five glissades that Torville and Dean would have been proud of, and not a 'Dancing on Ice' Judge in sight!

BTW, have they made snow shoes for walking canes yet? If so I want one. Now!!!

The only shoes I can wear at present, due to swollen ankles (see previous journal entries), are deck shoes. Appropriately named because, when walking on that is where I head, quickly, and then spend an inordinate amount of my time fighting gravity and to get back to an upright situation!

How can anyone ? The definitely doesn't live in , He lives in .

Now don't get me wrong... I , it is just that I have atrociously bad circulation and don't feel the . I haven't done my coat up once this winter, as my torso is like a furnace, but my extremities go the wildest of colours. Yesterday it took two hours for my fingers to go from true white, through yellow to blue, and finally blush pink. Normal colour returned after three hours!

So tomorrow should be a 's to the stop, followed by another to the front door of work, so up at 08.00.

Ooo dear.... is it bad the snow in London? The one and only bit of work on the horizon this year thus far means I have to be in London Tuesday late afternoon until about 3 or 4 Wednesday what's the betting the trains will be all messed up?

It's about 5cm deep at present. And trains don't get messed up... There just aren't any drivers familiar with

Hi MMF, don't mind me butting in? On your 'snow shoes for walking canes' comment - A couple of people I know who use 'em screw a simple screw into the rubber ferule and swear it gives a lot more purchase when it's icy. Something to try perhaps?

If you do it, though, give it a cautious test-drive outside your front door first. I don't want to be responsible for breaking your neck.

If it's ice you're worried about, you might just fasten a salt shaker to the handle

...and then wait for it to melt in between every step.

Can't you get a pair of shoes/boots to fit that are... well betterer than the deck shoes? I spend all my time wearing boots of various types these days so the snow doesn't necessarily mean a change of footwear Strange though, despite being drunk most the time I'm pretty sure footed on ice/snow
