Oh what a Beautiful Morning, Oh What a Beautiful day!!!
MMF - Keeper of Mustelids, with added P.M.A., is now in a relationship. Started conversation Apr 27, 2008
It's Saturday, and the is shining, the birds have been their out since the crack of Sparrows' F*rt, and it is time to get up and prepare for the day! And what a day. Quick , check the cameras and batteries are packed, and head of at 11:45 to the Underground... only there are engineering works today, on my section... ... Again!!! . Plan B, to Hammersmith and the Piccadilly line towards the British Museum. The only problem is the has bought everyone out, and they are all crawling along the road at snail's pace! But I do get there eventually. At which point Wilma phones asking where I am, and I advise her I'll be about 30 minutes.
I get to the platform and get on the right train, and I'm off . The start of today's big adventure...I got off at Holborn!!! And within the 30 minutes I had stated!!! I'm impressed with myself. However I obviously had the Evening Meet in mind , and it wasn't the station I wanted . No major problem, I hear you cry... The British Museum is very close, but I haven't been to it for a good 10 years, and I travel from Russell Square station, so I am a little confused What is more, the corner of Southampton Row is closed off, so I miss my turning, wandering all the way to Russell Square itself. Again Wilma phoned, as everyone has arrived except the Stoopid organiser. You know... The one that lives in London and knows his way around, and so organises the afternoon Meets!!! Yes, That Prat... no! Not ThatPrat... He doesn't turn up until later... I meant me!!!
Eventually, I arrive, hot foot at the British Museum (A273638), a good 15 minutes late, exhausted and soaked... It must have been 50C outside, and it is running off me. I am slowly dissolving! However it is good to see Peter, who points me in the direction of the crowd, along with (in no particular order) Wilma, B'Elana, Galaxy Babe, h5ringer, DragonQueen, Bald Bloke, Lil and Vicky Virago. all round. I then have to dash off to change my shirt, as I can't wear that one again. It is drenched. Once I rejoined, it is time to visit the Galleries. First stop is the Egyptian section, which is probably the only part of the museum I remember. Here we take a gentle amble, having already decided that, if we split up, we'd meet in the Cafe at 15:30. One area we walked through was the friezes that, it appears, had been hung at some school (BIG School!) who's name escapes me, before being transferred here. However there is Cuniform writing running right across the middle of each one! Maybe the Egyptians had Graffito way before we did ... And the warriors have HUGE calf muscles. They have to be seen to be believed. And we saw the Egyptian equivalent of a Jacuzzi. They had mis-labelled it as a sarcophagus (if I remember rightly) but at the base you could see where the pipes went for the bubbles, two grooves at one end for hot and cold wter, and a single groove at the other for the overflow... How could they get it so wrong? . We did have a little fun, and weren't terribly circcumspect!!! Once we reached the Elgin Marbles (they aren't round, and you can't play with them... A311383) h5ringer and I headed for the Enlightenment room, while DQ went to look for her deity. Around this time we had split up into little groups, as a couple of HooTooers needed a 'breath of fresh air' . Around this time Gnomon, Zarquon's singing fish and Little Zarq. appeared. Now here was someone who really understood this 'stuff' and could explain in detail, while I was meandering through the room looking at items that would have been more at home in Exhibition Road. However, with three new attendees arriving, we lost one, as Wilma had to go off for Family reasons... (Hope to see you again very soon, Wilma... A revisit to Kew is long overdue!!!) . Around 16:15 it was felt that refreshments were needed, so off to the Cafe and drinks. It was nice to sit down... My plates were cooking . Now Lil produced the Prof's 'Pink Thing'. An inflateable lollypop. It wasn't big enough to keep VV quiet though It was refreshing to chat in a relaxed manner! Very civilised. Around 17:00 Zarquon's SF and Little Zarq also had to disappear... something to do with so we decided it was time to head off for the evening Meet, once Gnomon had tried to buy out the shop.
It was still very warm, so we walked at a leisurely pace through this part of Camden, past signs stateing it was an arson area (I had seen three aspects of this earlier) so I knew it was a bit rough, but didn't realise how bad, until I saw a tree that was chained to the ground! Some people will nick anything.
On arrival at the Shakespeare's Head, 2legs, Roymondo and Titania were already there ahead of us... and at this juncture, I shall pass the rest of the Meet over to somebody else before you all on me...
For those of you that couldn't or didn't attend, I do recommend the London Meet, either just for the afternoon, or the evening, but ideally both... It is really good fun!!!
See you all next time!!!

I predict a great deal of blame heading 2legs way
2legs+thong, I should say.
Please tell me there were other more dignified spectacles to be seen.

There was plenty of spectacle , and even a major discussion, instigated by Titania, on how we wear spectacles!!! <or
'Do you wear your spectacles on the bridge of your nose, or half way down your nose?'
It was about 50/50 outcome, I believe...

I'm back home, and I enjoyed the meet just as much as everyone else - or probably even more.
Tired now, so all I'll do tonight is trying to catch up with the backlog.

Thank you for writing up your day, MMF
Unfortunately I now feel a touch queasy after foolishly clicking on Roymondo's photo links - will I ever learn?

Only 6 weeks til I miss another one?
I can hardly wait.
I think I must have got Eeyore's social life.
(why just the other day rabbit ran into me and said 'oh, bother')
Serves me right for living in a nearly fictional place.
Have fun
Don't mind me
Really, don't
