Germans don't have humour :-(

Post 1

Found this on YouTube today

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=tGRq97_VW1w&feature=related

I think it's pretty close to a German accent, I know how my mum talks English.

I then had a look at the comments, and boy, I'm embarrassed by most of them. They seem to prove that Germans are indeed completely humourless. smiley - yikes

What a shame. smiley - sadface

Secretly Not Here Any More

Don't ever judge anyone ever on the basis of youtube comments. They're the most convincing argument for compulsory sterilisation I've ever seen.

I'm not sure I get you there, Psycorp. I didn't judge the clip on the basis of the comments. The clip is hilarious. I'm only shocked by the nature of most of the comments I've read - and I only skimmed througgh the first few pages of comments (there are more than 3,000).

I think psychorp is advising against writing of your natioanl sense of humour of the basis of the less than brilliant people who post comments on youtube.

Ahh, ok, that makes sense, but still. It does seem to reflect how most of those Germans who have watched the clip perceived it.

I couldn't really understand the german language remarks so I can't comment on that front I'm afraid.

Believe me, you wouldn't want to know.

I believe the point is that if we used YouTube comments to define nations we'd get a pretty inaccurate set of results. We should go by that episode of Fawlty Towers instead. smiley - run

I've never watched Fawlty Towers, I've only heard about it.

B'El don't bother at all about this. The group of clips on YouTube IMO wasn't meant to be funny in the first place, just some American demonstrating his grasp of various accents. And so it wasn't taken as funny by the people who, rightly, are commenting on his accent.

I looked up his 'London' accent, which wasn't accurate - and again not meant to be funny. He based the accent on The Office, where the accents aren't London at all. It's set in Reading, which has a lot of West Country about it, and is quite a distance from London. Ricky Gervaise has quite a strong Reading/country accent (not a town accent), even now, as his natural accent. Not London at all.

Really, don't bother about it. It's not even meant to be funny.

Thanks, Jabs. I don't know the motivation of the chap, and I don't mind those comments pointing out what's wrong with his fake German accent (because some comments are right). However, I do mind the insults people posted. I mean, it can't be taken that serious, surely?

I didn't see the insults, I only read the first page, B'El. Didn't notice any insults there.

Most comments are by ignorant pre-teens, mostly American, who know nothing and think less. If there was an IQ test to join most of them would fail to get in. Really, don't worry about it. Forget it.

The insults are in German. I can't be bothered trying to find out what sort of people posted them, though.
It's just that I don't think ANY YouTube clip warrants personal insults, but maybe that's just me. smiley - smiley

Perhaps they think he's laughing at the Germans. He isn't. He wasn't laughing at the English either. These nuances are hard to discern in a foreihn language.

And the Americans don't have the monopoly on pre-teen - or any age - imbeciles. But I expect these morons hate the Americans anyway.

Although I've fairly good evidence to the contrary a perusal of comments on YouTube would imply that it's the most 'gay' site on the internet. Funny old world.:p

Actually, I wouldn't know. I don't browse YouTube very often, and I hardly ever read the comments on clips. I guess I'll go back to this in the future. smiley - biggrin

Bel, do not worry.

a Dutch ultra right member of parliament* made an anti Muslim movie, not yet shown anywhere. Dutch tv broadcasters will not show it, because the member does not want the Dutch tv broadcasters preview it. they expect that the movie will cause a lot of trouble around the world. the Dutch government is already alerting other governments around world.

* the member's name is worth mentioning and any name calling is an insult to that name.

You're right, prof, life is easier when you cannot only laugh about others, but about yourself, too.
