Viojen 2*16+1+3+6=42. Fencing-it's escrime!

My stand partner (violin) is 6'2", and his hair easily adds another 2". Very long boned, including in his hands. Even with perfect posture, standing up straight, it looks like he is wrapped around his instrument. (for the non-musicians out there, you can be literally wrapped/curled around your instrument, but then you are all hunched over and more convoluted than ususal, which is: a) uncomfortable and b) leads to greater risk of occupational injury)

He has a 6'5" brother who used to play viola, and other brother (6' and growing) plays the cello.

On the subject of accomodation at York Uni...

Halifax UPP (privately owned accommodation in Halifax College area) is very nice and has en-suite facilities. But it's really, really far from the music hall (well, 15 mins fast walk). The closest to the concert hall is Vanbrough, and Goodrick isn't too far either (though is renouned for being a dump). Halifax is more expensive than other colleges, and the UPP is the most expensive, but then it's really clean/new etc.

Dunno if any of that helps, but I hope so smiley - smiley

Hey! Thanks for that! I have a feeling we're staying in Vanbrough coz thats where a mate of mine stayed before for his choral trip and its the same sort of thing. Thank you! smiley - boing

as for the other part of this thread... Jen, thats sort of out point exactly, really tall bloke plays little violin... really small bloke plays DB.... madness... saying that our tuba player is a giant too... hmmm

Hope you have fun on the course - I play persussion and sing but haven't been in an orchestra or chior since sixth form (now at York, obvoiusly). I reeeeally miss it, but my lectures tend to run over into the practice times - bah. I auditioned for the Chamber chior last year but didn't get in - I think they were only taking a few, near profesional singers, and probably only those who already studied music (that's how I console myself anyway smiley - crysmiley - winkeye)

P.S. Know a very, very tall lady who plays piccolo smiley - laugh

Just remembered-my friend's little brother plays tuba. And he's really small, although he's also still pretty young. 11, I think.

Pantherlady -

Yes, she plays flute too. And bassoon, which is pretty tall of course!

Took ages to reply 'cause of going to Amsterdam for the weekend, and not using the internet either side of then for a bit. Soz! I wanna go back - it was really fun - but spent lots of money!
