Entry: Counting to 1023 on 10 fingers - A1011231
Author: Researcher 223793 - U223793

The universal language of binary explained in an easy to digest format.

Once you've got the hang of that, learn how to count to 1023 on your fingers so you can kill more buffalo.

Although you credit the author most of what you wrote is copied verbatim from another source.

To avoid being moderated, please remove the material and write, in your own words, what you want to say.

Thanks,

Friar

Nope. Never copied anything in the tutorial. Came from my head. Care to explain your accusation?

Actually, I DID copy it from my personal homepage which was of course written by me also, so you TECHNICALLY could say I copied from another source, but that other source happens to be me also. Can I sue myself?

http://www.dnaco.net/~ivanjs/ and click on the binary pages to see the original version of this.

Too bad h2g2 doesn't let me put images in my posts, then I wouldn't have to link to external images (kind of breaks the flow of the tutorial if you have to click a link for an image).

John again.

Hi Johnny

I can't remember the exact wording about copyright but assuming that isn't an obstacle then you might want to visit the <./>GuideML-Clinic</.>

Using <./>GuideML-TABLE</.>'s could be a fairly effective way of reproducing your graphics so that they can be included in the body of the entry, which, by the way, is smiley - cool

<./>GuideML-SUP</.> could be worth a look too

Have you seen A895205 (the h2g2 Maths Lab) yet?

Gnomon - time to move on

The gif files that you link to in this are just simple tables, so the same effect could easily be achieved using tables within H2G2 rather than referring to something outside the site. Do you think it might be an idea to do this?

Hi Johnny,

I think there's quite a bit of overlap between your entry and one I wrote a long time ago.

Maybe you can take a look and see if and how the two can co-exist. Maybe you can refer to the edited entry?

Awu.

Hey-
Great to see someone else who knows binary.

However, I think there's a bit more detail in mine and a different approach altogether. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

take care.

Gnomon - time to move on

Did you write the article on counting on your fingers that this entry links to? If so, then you should rewrite it here. This is supposed to be an entry on counting on your fingers, but it doesn't tell you how to do it, it just links to another place on the web. This isn't acceptable. Guide Entries should be self-contained. It's ok to put links in to other items of interest, but the main subject of the entry should be in the entry.

If you didn't write that page that you link to, then you will have to paraphrase it in your own words and include it in the entry.

I would include a warning about counting to 390 in public too

In America, it would be 132 that would be offensive.

Of course I wrote the one I'm linking to.

The reason I ended up linking to the binary finger tutorial, is because it relies on graphics (they won't let you include graphics here as far as I can tell).

Anyway, I'll see if I can figure out a way to do it without graphics or in the least link to each graphic (which is not the best way to do a tutorial since it disturbs the flow).

Actually, binary 4 seems to freak out teachers who've used my tutorial. Binary 4 is difficult to do without a snicker.

GNOMON:
I took your advice and expanded the Binary Finger Counting section of the binary tutorial (rather than JUST link to my original binary tutorial on my personal site). I'm still not fond of linking to external graphics, but there it is.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi again Johnny

Have you tried making a GuideML table?

There's a simple one (2 rows, 8 columns) here... A978636

Hey Johnny, you planning on working on this anymore?
If so, you need to get rid of the 1st person words (I, me, etc) smiley - ok

Johnny seems to have left the building. This isn't EG eligible, but it could be... Move this to Flea Market? Or back to entry? Perhaps someone more experieced in this could tell how useful this entry is?
