I want to join The Young Researchers Club!

I want to join The Young Researchers Club!:: I'm Lemon Blossom, or just Lemon.

And I do know what it means:

The red thing represents the number of integers, also called alph-sub-nul.

The e represents 2.71..., the base of the only type of function that is its own derivative, y=ae^x where a is a real constant and y and x are variables.

The yellow Greek letter is the arccos of -1, which is 3.14159265....

And of course, remember that e^(¶i) = -1. That is very important.

Hmm de hmm, I thought the "red thing" was just infinity, although I suppose the number of integers could just be a fancy way of saying that...

Anyway that sort of knowledge should be kept hidden - it scares people smiley - evilgrin.

I'm sure someone will come to put you in a cage and poke at you with sticks (or just add you to the list) soon enough. Hopefully. Although things do seem to be getting very lax around here. Nothing works in the UK you see...

There's more than one tpye of infinity--the eight on it's side represents the lowest type--alph sub nul or just infinity. Higher transfinite numbers are represented by alph sub (positive integer) and are infinitely larger than infinity. Examples of them include continuum, the number of points on a line.

The lowest transfinite number, infinity, is equal to the number of integers, but there are higher ones.

It is confusing.

Well, people at school, at least, are scared of me anyway.

Most of the kids at school think that boys should just be good at sports and girls should just look "pretty"--nothing else matters to them. It is disgusting.

Hmm you're really into your maths aren't you? Well, whatever floats your boat smiley - biggrin. Anyway I guess that all makes sense.

I think somehow you'll find most people care about a lot more than those things if you poke around in their heads a bit. How old are you anyway? Do you not have little cliques of "just like everyone else I try to be different" style people at your school?

Yeah. I guess I am.

Not really--everyone seems to be the same. I have a few friends, but not that many. Most people only talk to me when they need help with homework or studying for a test. I'm in 11th grade (second to last before college). Still, it's better than middle school.

For example, noone has hit me in the head with a rock in high school yet (actually, that happened in elementary school, not middle school). But noone has started a mob of people chanting "devil worshiper" at me, or stood up on a chair and ordered a class to beat me up, and those did happen in middle school. So I really shouldn't complain about high school.

Oh heh I didn't think US 'grades' corresponded to UK 'years' exactly like that. That makes you 15/16 then I suppose. smiley - erm things probably get better in the next couple of years. A tendancy away from group identity and all that. Honestly your school sounds like it came straight out of 'Saved by the Bell' though...

Kat - From H2G2

You never know when someone might return to H2G2 so I'm leaving you a message here.

The Young Researchers' Club was inactive for a LONG time. However I got myself together and gave it a make-over!

We now have a BRAND NEW SPANKING Young Researchers' Club!!!

A983171

Go take a look! There's threads for school, life, books, music, and a general chat thread to introduce yourself and talk about what's going on in your life and to hear about what's happening to other people!

It'll be a bit quiet to start with, but give us time and hopefully lots of people will be along soon. If you know any kids on H2G2 then tell them about us! Get them to come and join!

So if you do return from wherever you've gone then we hope to see you there!

Kat
