Due to financial difficulties at the place I work, my contract's being terminated as of next Friday.

Good news:
I'm getting paid for the next 9 days - and I don't have to go in work!

Bad news:
I'm a little bit unemployed.

Getting sacked just before the rights kick in. Are they laying off anyone else?

Most contracts for salaried staff usually stipulate 14 or 30 days notice.

But giving nine and letting you not work them seems fair-ish if the company is in real trouble.

Good luck finding something else! I hear they are recruiting at Salford CSC if you wanted to go back to your old stomping ground !

Apparently they're laying off a few people. Still - I'm 10 months of experience better off than I was this time last year, I've got a few bob in the bank as of pay day, and I'm fairly optimistic about the whole thing!

Despite me being a "lifer" I think you probably have the right idea!!!!

I'm sorry to hear this is happening to you. It's happened to me, too, and it really sucks.

Why did I read the title as "penis for hire" in my conversations list ?

That's the best bit - I had been promoted. Then, a month later I'm told that as "the most junior member of the team", I have to go.

Basically I've been shafted, but such is life. Bigger and better things await.

How's this for excellence? Just heard from my mate - he's handed in his notice, so now in less than a week, they've gone from "we need to get rid of people" to "we're hiring".

Nah, that'd mean that management would have to admit they made a mistake.

Still it might be worth writing them a letter. It will only cost you a stamp and it might give them an out.
