*sigh*
One never feels as alone as when one is URL exploring in the dead of the night.
An anknown reply in an unknown article from the 1st user on all of H2G2, who hasn't been heard from in any form other than this article for about a year and a half at the time of this posting.
Why'd you do it, Slacker? Why'd you come back? Who needed those words, that sparked 38 sleepless hours and the cryptic resurrection of a near-mythical figure in the story of The Guide?
Will anybody else notice this little backwater of cyberspace, this little eddy in a sea of semi-static? Will the question ever be answered, or will it be just you and me, a wholly unremarkable internet entity talking to a virtual ghost from a poorly understood past? I feel like an archeologist, becoming one of his own artifacts, and putting himself in a museum where no one will ever look, and not even dust can fall.
Are you there, Slacker?
Is anybody out there?
*sigh*

To explain.
This article was originally written for the launch of h2g2 in April 1999. It was written by Slacker, who got his ID of U1 by virtue of being the executive producer on the project (and by virtue of being more senior to me, so I couldn't argue with him). It was written to be the introduction on Douglas' personal space, because Douglas hadn't written one yet, and we felt his space needed one.
Eventually, that introductory text was changed, and was unfortunately not saved, which is a shame because, at the very least, it was a small part of the history of the site.
Luckily, the text of the page had also been saved to the TDV Intranet.
Unluckily, when TDV ceased to be, the Intranet was closed, and seemed to be lost.
Luckily, I found the old backup I made of the Intranet database a little while ago, and was able to recover this page. Slacker asked me for a copy, so I put it up on here under his name.
So there you have it. I hope you enjoyed your brief sojourn into Internet archaeology and didn't get too dusty.

An interesting tale. It's good to know I'm not all alone out here.

Oh you're not alone out/down here. I just don't check the "abandoned" low U-numbers for activity very often.

... And I'm trying to get U1's space updated to acknowledge he is the first ever researcher -> A853940
What's Tim doing now then?
