A grand day out.
~:*-Venus-*:~ Started conversation Sep 25, 2008
Today was a good day, i met up with MMF for a trip around Kew.
The weather was dry and even sunny at times, which was very pleasant.
The first stop was the Shirley Sherwood Gallery, where botanic paintings are on display. Suddenly MMF and myself were art critics The detail on some of the paintings were amazing while others we were quick to point out flaws and defects Well thats what critics do is'nt it!
We walked around a bit taking in the views and the first changing colours of the trees, as they put on their Autumn display.
The next stop was the new arboretum walk, a 59ft high structure which meanders among the tree tops. As the lift was'nt in operation and MMF is suffering from an infection i decided to give the walk a go. Bearing in mind i suffer quite badly with vertigo this was a brave step for me. I climbed the 118 steps up to the top of the structure, a couple of times i looked down and felt my head swim a bit The steps were very sturdy, so i was'nt too worried. The same cannot be said for the walkway at the top, it was a metal, mesh walkway and felt like i was walking on chicken wire I took 3 very quick photos, not worrying whether they were in focus or not! By this point my legs had turned to jelly and i was feeling very unsafe I only reached the first viewing platform and that was enough, i could'nt wait to get back onto solid. It would take an army to get me up there again!
We wondered round some more, stopping at the lakes where we saw a Mitten crab and loads of water birds, including some Mandarin ducks.
Finally we reached our starting point and after stopping for coffee, it was time to make our way out.
It was a lovely, if not tiring day and i hope MMF has'nt overdone it with the walking. i think he's going to feel it tomorrow.
A grand day out.

I was swaying with you there Venus. I can't stand heights either, and even solid structures don't make me feel safe. It is such a shame because we miss out on interesting stuff don't we
Glad you had a nice day. Hope MMF didn't overdo it, though i am sure he was glad of a change of scenery.

The virtual walk MMF gave me the link to made my head spin. I'm glad I wasn't up there. My vertigo gets worse with old age.
Glad you had a good day.

MMF probably won't thank me for this, but i think he did overdo things today I just hope it does'nt set his recovery back.

That's what I'm worried about. Especially since he planned to go to a concert tonight.
Then again, he's old enough to make his decisions; I'm sure he'd have cancelled it had he thought it was too much.

It certainly is.
Glad the weather was nice, too. It's often freezing cold here, although today wasn't too cold.
Winter is coming.

The only thing you would've seen by looking up, would be a quivering wreck trying to get down without looking petrified! Namely me!
A grand day out.

Hi Venus ,
I am glad that you had a nice day out, apart from swinging in the tree tops . I have never been to Kew, only Wisley where I collected my horticultural certificates - that was a lovely day out which I will never forget .
Hope MMF is , and that he hasn't over-done the walking. I have to use either a wheelchair, or an electric scooter when out; the walking is too much for me now. I do a little walking each day for a bit of exercise, but not very far.
Take care.

Hi Venus, and all... I haven't written my Journal yet... but it is coming.
You'll be pleased to know my legs are still attached to my feet, or vice versa. They were tired and rather sore at the concert but, bear in mind, I did half the distance I'd normally in Kew, so I really was taking it easy... Honest.
However the legs are very red, and dark, but less swollen. I am keeping a serious eye on them!!! As Venus can prove, they are 'interesting'.
It was a fantastic day, yesterday, as it always is with the combination of Kew Gardens, sun, HooTooers, and especially Venus. Thanks again for a wonderful day... Here's to next time!

Oh yes, MMF's legs were interesting and sooo soft too
I think we did a bit more walking than intended, but it's so easy to do when you're just chatting and ambling along.
It was a great day and great company too
There will of course be a next time, but you won't get me on that scary walk again
A grand day out.

Hi Nigel.
You know a monkey would have had great fun swinging from that structure, and would be welcome to it aswell!

Although I suffer from vertigo in a similar way to your yourself, once that lift is working, I am going to be that monkey! And I will invite you again, and maybe we'll tackle the walk together?
And yes, if the blotches don't disappear then I shall definitely get further advise or treatment!
Have a great weekend all of you.
I have nothing to do, except get the paper!!!
