The Time Has Come...
J Started conversation Jan 15, 2006
...for a break Every winter, I usually get a little bored with hootoo and contemplate leaving. That usually doesn't last for too long, but this time it's coupled with an increasingly busy RL. So I'm going to try taking a break for a week or two.
I'll still be answering email - on UG business (not that I do much of that normally - if someone wants to be a UG Ed you can see my email address on my space ) or the normal saving-the-world-from-the-forces-of-destruction issues. I haven't been posting more than twice a day at most for a while now, so I doubt you'll miss me. Like the Sheep Schwarzenegger once said...
"I'll be baaaaa-aaaack."

Just as long as you do come back - can't have our VP skipping out on us, can we?
The Time Has Come...
J Posted Jan 16, 2006
Hah. Yeah, the VP is essential to the survival of the site. My responsibility, I think, is to have a pulse.

'The time has come,' the Walrus said,
'To talk of many things:
Of shoes - and ships - and sealing-wax -
Of cabbages - and kings -
And why the sea is boiling hot -
And whether pigs have wings.'

Have a good break Jodan, just make sure you get back - place won't be the same without you and .
Meantime, sealing wax - there's something it's a pity has gone out of fashion. I had to use some once, parcelling up election returns. Set fire to them .

I used sealing wax when I was in my historical romanticism phase. The kind I had came as a candle which you lit and then dripped over the letter, but I could never get the candle to stay alight for more than two seconds.
The Time Has Come...
LL Waz Posted Jan 17, 2006
We had long, thin, wax tapers to melt the stick of sealing wax. Not only did the tapers stay alight, the drops of sealing wax lit too, dripping in flames onto the parcels and setting light to the string and the brown paper.
Did you have a signet ring to stamp the seal, emr? I always thought that would be neat to do.
The Time Has Come...
J Posted Jan 22, 2006
Stamping seals... that's what I like to hear But don't mention Seal Wax - the salmonid would get ideas.
I'm back. Used the free time to catch up on some reading, and after reading an excellent book - I won't say what about yet - I have an idea for a series of entries that may or may not materialize in PR soon.
By the way, I have to say that this break worked just like I hoped it would. I'm feeling rejuvenated and ready to save the universe.

I saw that on the news last night. The whale not the donut

Can I just ask what if some Hillybilly terrorists kidnap a member of the President's family while the VP is missing in action. DO we have an equivalent of the 25th amendment to say who would step up into the breach if say the President was unable to carry out her duties?
The Time Has Come...
Elentari Posted Jan 22, 2006
Excellent point, DD.
Still, glad to have you back, boss.
The Time Has Come...
Hypatia Posted Jan 22, 2006
*wonders which member of her family might be a kidnap threat......hopes it's her stepdaughter...........not sure Hillbilly terrorists would be sober enough to pull off a kidnapping.............decides to increase security around Annie and Minerva anyway*
The Time Has Come...
J Posted Jan 22, 2006
Oh goodness, I don't think you want me to be steering the ship of state.
The President could take any hillbilly terrorists. She'd just sit on them until their mothers came and picked them up.
The Time Has Come...
Hypatia Posted Jan 22, 2006
I've never actually met a Hillbilly terrorist. I've run into some wasted coon hunters.
Did you know that we can no longer refer to residents of Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia as Hillbuillies? To be politically correct, they are Appalachian Americans.

Nithe to thee you back, big boy.

Thad about the guy in the Thameth. Different familieth, though. He wath a Thiphiid, not a Delphinid like me. They don't adapt tho well to thtrange environment-th, like danthe-floorth and thuch. Probably cometh of eating nothing but thquid.

Kentucky ain't even near the Appalachians. 'specially the western Kentucky, which is the parts I have kin in.
By the way, Madame President, did I miss anything important? Any constitutional crises? You didn't declare war on another site without the presence of my steady hand to advise and guide you, did you?
Hi Orchid. Understand, it wasn't so much that I wanted you dead, as... um,
