The Fun Run.
Prior to 'Peer Review' prospective entries for the Edited Guide were submitted to the Editors for consideration and either accepted or rejected. As the Editing staff were fairly few in number and the massive volume of submissions created something of a backlog it wasn't unusual to wait about six to eight weeks to find out if your submission was accepted or turned down. Part of the reason for the delay was that some/most? entries that were accepted had to be physically edited or licked into shape by the in-house staff.
One Researcher, Vegiman, U34006 introduced a self-help scheme; The 'Fun Run Critique' to create a means whereby entries could be critiqued by other researchers, prior to submission, to improve the quality of the entries and thereby cutting down the editorial workload.
This simply involved about four or five authors grouping together, each with an article, while other researchers were invited to post comments and give a rating out of 10 to each of the entries.
It seemed to work quite well for a short time but eventually was superseded by Peer Review.

Now ~there's~ a memory jolt! Thanks for that and the other thread, Austin Morris. You remind me that I need to writing up more lore, myself.
What do you remember of the Rambling Misfits?

Hi
I remember the Rambling Misfits at the time, but I'm afraid that as I wasn't one of them I can't really tell you much about them. I seem to remember they were the local 'softball team'. Looking at one of the old threads conjures up some magical names that I'd half forgotten. Where on earth are they all now?
Whilst I'm on this nostalgia kick and by a convoluted association of ideas, I've also come up with 'The Forum and Firkin' which was an early watering hole on h2. I can't remember how it came by its name but I seem to remember that it had to change it after Rupert, as it was too close an association with a real life chain of public houses with similar names. It may still be going on under in a different guise?
All the best

Good luck with your venture.
Thanks for your praise - won't be able to get my head through the door now
Area 42 was left by the wayside due to heavy commitments IRL
But I could dust out the cobwebs if you require any info.
I have updated my email address on my space. Got too many spam mails on the previous one so I closed it down. If it happens again I will encrypt the address to foil those nasty spammers.
Cant remember the passwords for the area 42 project but it is there if you want to use it. I have lost touch as to who is the community editor now but could get in touch big wig Peta who would be to pleased to help an old campaigner.
All the best

It's like a comet passing by, isn't it?
Will we have to wait another five years for the next return I wonder?

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
