The actor, famous for his role as Marvin, the paranoid android, has died at the age of 81. His versatility was displayed, when he switched roles from the world weary robot to the whale, born into existence when the infinite improbability drive transmuted him from one of the two rockets fired at the Heart of Gold. Suddenly he was innocence personified before reality caught up with him in the shape of the ground. He the second cast member to go that I am aware of, after Peter Jones and his lovely touch of irony in his narration of The Book.
