Baby you're a firework (NaJoPoMo Pt. 5)
HonestIago Started conversation Nov 5, 2011
I've already had my fill of writing for today, so this is going to be journal somewhat lacking in coherence and structure. I'll try and do a better one tomorrow.
I'm currently watching Stargate: Universe. I'd previously written it off as a cheap and stupider version of Firefly or the new BSG because of reviews I'd read but over half-term I started watching it and I'm really impressed so far. It doesn't feel like a Stargate series, it's a lot slower and a lot more introspective - as much as I enjoyed Stargate it was always a bit shallow - and that really works for me. The characters, with one major exception, are well-drawn and well-acted and some really interesting shades of grey (Robert Carlyle's character is particularly good). I also like there's no clear villain yet, just people trying to get on.
Soon I'll be going to a friends and we'll be setting off some fireworks which should be good fun. I really like Bonfire Night, I'm not very sophisticated so pretty lights and loud bangs amuse me. Plus I love the smell of Bonfire Night. It normally marks the proper start of winter and I'm hoping we'll see the first snow fairly soon (I love snow).

I am considered weird because I too enjoy the smell of gun-powder after a great load of fiire-works. You are just weird if you like snow.

I don't care that much for fireworks, causes too much distress for my pets.(well, just the mad moggie left now) I tend to turn the TV or stereo up to try and counteract the noise somewhat.

We were looking forward to SG:U but as time went on we just gradually got more and more bored. It was a soap opera that happened to be in space.
I'm glad you're enjoying it, but I'm also glad we decided to stop watching it.

I watched and loved the original SG series. They then had a very long break, and then followed up with SG Atlantis, I think. I didn't get the hang of that any more.
I'm not fond of fireworks in the streets, so I'm glad we don't celebrate bonfire night here (yet. You never know, some clever businessmen may import it, like they did with Halloween).

I hate fireworks in the street too, we're going up to the edge of the moor to let ours off - less disturbing other people plus we get to watch everyone else's in the valley below.
I'm saying that, it might not happen now given the people I'm supposed to be doing it with are having a domestic in the next room. Fun, fun, fun.

So, did you get to go up to the moors to let the fireworks off in the end?
Such is the effect of journal writing, it is the inconsequential remark ( in this case the mention of the domestic ) that set the tone for the reader.

I'm just hoping the fireworks weren't let off in the next room...

Fireworks on a moor. Cool. If it happened.

Othello had it coming!
Yeah, it all happened, the domestic settled down (my refusing to let either of them stay in my house, and forcing them to sort it out may have helped a bit) and a good time was had by all. I nearly set fire to a tree, which was cool.

I always thought Othello was a gullible wimp, too. Didn't dare speak up, though, as a young girl doing O level, and a very strict English teacher, not to mention those boys in our English class.
Fireworks. Hmm - I could write a journal about them, too, even though no fireworks go off in Germany in November.
