In this little enclave of the lost, I've witnessed the best of being human
HonestIago Started conversation Jan 24, 2011
The title is a quote from last night's Being Human that seems particularly apt with todays news.
This might be a bit premature, the Beeb is yet to announce its plan for us and there is a community rescue plan being created over at A80173361, but I just want to say a few words in the hope I can feel a little better.
This place is more than just a website for me, it's my online home and you all are so much more than fellow researchers. I joined this site not long after my 18th birthday when I was a person almost unimaginably different to who I am now. The one constant in all that time has been this website, which has been a chronicle of and a motor for the change that's made me the man I am today. I spent some of this weekend looking over my earliest posts and reading stories of long-forgotten boyfriends and heartbreaks, triumphs and successes. I saw the arguments of others that helped me change and define what I believe in.
There were times not too long ago where I honestly don't think I'd have made it through the night without you lot: when I was at my nadir and my friends weren't able to help, here you all where, keeping me going when I didn't think I could do it myself - in this enclave of the lost I saw the best humanity has to offer.
Things are a lot better for me now but I still rely on this community for people to talk to, bounce ideas off, teach me new things and call me out when I'm being a d-bag. The prospect of losing this upsets me more than I'm comfortable admitting.
There, I said it. Not sure it made me feel better, but it needed saying.
Iago

Thank you for that post. I feel like a little kid that has lost their favorite blanket at the mall.

Nicely put, Iago.
It's a strange place, this. Nowhere else is quite like it. We get a better class of nutter here too.

For me too hootoo has provided stability when I needed it. A group who I knew would always be there. I've made friends in other reaches of the internet, but hootoo is home.
