Chocolate and Colds

Post 1

Amanda

Hi

I manage to get a cold, not just any cold but a monster of a cold, every few weeks or so. I work in a school and get all the germs flying round all the time.
Apparently when I have been in schools for about 2 years, I will have built up an immunity. Well, only another 12 months to go !

I am sat here, unable tio go to the gym, cause I can hardly walk let alone run, eating a large bar of Whole Nut Choccie.

I can feel the pounds piling on me as I type.

Anyone got any cold remedies to share?
Or a cure for Chocolate obsession?

Amanda out smiley - ok

Hi Amanda

Colds are rotten aren't they?

I had one a couple of weeks ago and found that paracetamol stopped my nose running at night. Hardly surprising it's a major ingredient in cold remedies. I've never bothered with them myself.

Hope you feel better soon.smiley - smiley

Hope you're feeling better soon, Amanda. I've had pneumonia a few times, so, when I get a cold - it jumps on my weakened system, it locks on like a Pit Bull, & its not comin' off until Its good 'n' ready...so I get a cold in Dec...chances are, I've still got it in early Feb smiley - erm.

Jazz, that is me. I dont get a cold for a few days, I get it for a few weeks!
This one has gone on to my chest now, so I am coughing like a good 'n'.
I will not complain as there are many people worse off than me in the world, I will just curl up in front of the PC and drink my Lemsip.

Right, good idea, I suppose, luv smiley - winkeye. We have (I'm assuming) much the same kind of thing, over here...a hot lemon drink, called Neo-Citran...2 or 3, in a couple hours, make you quite drowsy, & before you know it smiley - yawnZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ smiley - smiley

All depends what you need, at the time, right, Amanda? Sometimes you just want to sleep, when you've got a really miserable cold.

colds:
vitamin c.
lots of protein to build more antibodies and stuff [which are made of protein].
try not to stress about things [stress leads to cortisol release, which leads to weakened immunity]

chocolate cravings:
buy a bunch of your favorite chocolates.
sit down in front of the TV when Fear Factor is on.
wait until Stunt number 2 when they have to try to gag down the grossest crap, like buffalo testicles, cow bile, and sheep brains...
then, pig out on all your nice chocolate as you stare, eyes glued to the screen and all the horror...
i can guarantee you that classical conditioning will create an aversion towards chocolate after that! smiley - biggrin

another idea.
take chocolate [initial positive stimulus]
collect a bunch of large cockroaches [negative stimulus]
put the chocolate in a large pot and melt it down.
dump the roaches into it and boil 'em to death.
then, scoop out each roach and make sure that they're covered in lots of chocolate.
wait for 'em to cool and solidify...
then, chow down...
now, eating the cockroaches covered in chocolate will transform the initial positive response to the chocolate into sheer disgust! smiley - biggrin

petey out!

lemme know how it goes, ok?

My cold is nasty still and I am getting a cough now! Not good. smiley - blue
I have finished work for a week though today, so I might have a chance to recover now.
Chocolate and roaches. eek.

Hopefully you'll have time to get a bit more rest, Manda, that should help. Yeah, those coughs can be nasty, alright, sometimes I cough so much, my throats raw...thank goodness smiley - choc doesn't bother it! smiley - winkeye Time to just relax with either a smiley - tea or Lemsip, right luv?

I'm stayin' away from the roaches though, petey ol' boy...far, far away!!
