A Conversation for Thirsty?
Round 5 Answers (Oooooo!)
Munchkin Posted Mar 27, 2000
Well, a load of new people for this last round, some of whom are disturbingly good.
Round Five: General Knowledge (The answers)
1) Ho Chi Minh City is on which river? Saigon (Hence the original name)
2) Who wrote (and sang) Alice's Restaurant Massacree, a popular sixties protest song? Arlo Guthrie
3) A political incident, known as The Pig War, occured on an island on the Pacific North West of the North American continent in the 1860s. Which two nations were involved? Britain and USA (A lot of you put Canada. As the Pig War lasted until 1870, and Canada was creatd in 1867, I will give you half a point for that. Strictly the two capitals involved were London and Washington though)
4) What is Madonna's full name? Madonna (Louise Veronica) Ciccone
5) If Hitler's Germany was the Third Reich, what was the First Reich? Holy Roman Empire (Second Reich was the pre-Great War German Empire)
6) What is the Capital of Canada? C (Well Ottawa actually) (No-body put the comedy answer )
7) What is the Latin name for the set of stars known as the Plough (or Big Dipper if you are American)? Ursa Major
8) The Chang Kai Shek airport is where? Taipei, Taiwan
9) If Classic Star Trek was first and Star Trek: The Next Generation was third, what was the second Star Trek series? The rather poor Animated series. (In my opinion far too many of you got this right!)
10) The Eighteenth Ammendment of the U.S. Constitution was the prohibition of intoxicating liquors. What was the nineteenth? Votes for women.
Scores for that round:
bluDragon 7.5
Fenny 7
HangingSheep 6.5
Phil 4
Sheep 10 (Blimey!) (Although his full quoting of the 19th ammendment is a bit suspect)
Zmrzlina 7
Allister Cormann 8
Gibbous Hindsight 7
William 3.5 (Trying to be too clever there mate)
Swiv 2 (What happened?)
JimiX 8.5
Looney Tunes 9 (Eventually)
Thus the final scores are:
Looney Tunes 29.5
Swiz 22.5
Hanging Sheep 22.5
Phil 22
JimiX 22
Allister 17
Fenny 16.5
Frink 10
Sheep 10
O.S. Device 9
Wowbagger 8
bluDragon 7.5
Katebytheway 7
Zmrzlina 7
Gibbous Hindsight 7
William 3.5
Irving Washington 3
So, well done Mr. Tunes, you are the first recipient of the Official Munchkinstien State (in association with Frink's Drinks) Pub Quiz Winners Applause Isn't he a brainy sod
I'm off to think up more questions, and will start a new quiz (everyone back to zero points) in a week or two, after some obscure researching. Any suggestions for rounds?

Better than expected in that round. Not too bad, joint fourth overall.
I'm sure that I'd have done better if Ihad joined in the first round. Best get reading up for the next round!

DRAT! missed a couple...
Well that just goes to show ya, it's just like on TV. You can always get 'em when you're just watching, but when you are actually on the show it's a lot harder.
Can I come back for the next round? Huh? Huh? Please?

Didn't do too bad. Though...I would have only had 6 if my daughter hadn't helped with the Madonna question. Looking forward to the next quiz.
Thank-you!

Well done Munchkin. I actually compiled a pub quiz for work last week which you are more than welcome to, just send me an e-mail and I'll send it to you. Obviously if you use it I'll consider sitting it out.

Er, I didn't receive any answers from Master Washington this week. Also F.A.T.C really should tell me who they are in their emails. Such problems will hopefully be ironed out in the rules to be published with Son of Pub Quiz.

Wow!
Good show Looney Tunes, Swit, Hanging Sheep, and the lot of you. I continue to be humbled by the company of folk that h2g2 has brought together.
Can't wait to start this next set from the first round. But then of course I will indeed have to wait, won't I?

Can we get a notification of the next round up on the main H2G2 page Munchkin? I'm bound to miss it otherwise and it looked like this one was good fun. (Although have just realised that by posting this, it will be obvious from my own home page huh?)
I even knew the Alice question...

Munchikn, I DID send you my answers this round, but *cough* I neglected to tell you who I was. They looked like this:

2Alro Guthrie
3Canada and the US
4Madonna. She's had it legaly changed
5The Holy Roman Empire
6Ontario
7The Great Bear (not Latin, but that's what it translates to. Half
credit? )
8China
9The Star Trek Movies starting from Wrath of Kahn going through to
Voyage Home
10 The 19th amendment repeals the 18th
And, as you can see, I got very few correct, but I did get *some*

Which means you have a total of 6.5. I believe the River Kwai is in Burma (Myanmar), as in Bridge Over. Everyone whistle now.
If you lot keep up this level of badgering I'm going to crack and start the next quiz. Which I will advertise to my utmost. Got to go drink now, see you later.
