There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

And getting closer from both ends. While their sentience and intelligence might be increasing, ours is surely decreasing.

Just look at Facebook, any online messageboard (this one excepted, of course), blogs and the internet in general.

The Family Circus mentioned twitter the other day*. I consider that a sign of the end times.

* No, I don't read it. I saw it on Reddit. Family Circus has only ever been entertaining by accident and yet damn near every paper still in print carries it. I have no idea why.

I really should have posted this a couple of weeks ago.

This is made from raw imagery from Cassini orbiting around Saturn.
Cassini is sending back the kind imagery that we once used to only see in scifi movies but this is the real deal.

Man, IF this thing is real/feasible/marketable, this could be very cool indeed. But I can't help but think this is more hype than anything.

That is totally cool. I'm not a techie so don't really understand how it's possible, but being a poor photographer, I hope it is and is affordable.

Here's yet another article with a bit more info and also for those like me who can't view the imbedded images, it also has a demonstration video. http://allthingsd.com/20110621/meet-the-stealthy-start-up-that-aims-to-sharpen-focus-of-entire-camera-industry/

Maybe my laptop will have more luck with the images.

Dear Count Zero,
What on Earth are you going to do without your regular ISS circling our planet. I hope you are not going to loose your jobsmiley - biggrin. I still remember with much pleasure how you directed me to seeing one of the first ISS passing over my neck of the woods, what a joy it was to see it with a naked eye. Do write if you have time.

Sincerely and AlsoRan 80

Here's a cool art thing that was done here in Houston a few years ago. I didn't know about it until after it was gone. I had seen the pictures a few times before I knew it was in the Montrose area.(The Montrose is Houston's artist/hip/gay community. It was also home to some of my favorite bars when I used to go into Houston nearly every weekend.)

smiley - wow my sentiments exactly!!
i used to proofread for a newspaper... which was locally owned in a liberal community.
then a company bought it that was conservative.
the comics changed...
granted some of the good ones stayed but
some were put in, replacing other good ones, that were awful
like that stupid duck one

anyway... i learned the comics page of a paper
will tell you the politics of whoever calls the shots at that paper

Amateur astronomers have some amazing tools available to them today that allow them to image things thought difficult if not impossible for even some of our best observatories just a few decades ago.
