What a great article, thanks!
I've only tried the Ski Queen brand - but I like it! I'll keep an eye out for the others, I expect they're even better!

Well, Ski Queen is supposed to be Gubrandsdalsost (just with preservatives and packed for export) and, in my opinion, Gubrandsdalsost is _the_ brunost. Ekte Geitost is an experience that should not be missed either though. Mmmm...

I read this a few days ago, when it was on the ComingUp page, and I was intrigued. I went out and bought a little cube of Ski Queen, and it's great! I've been, just like it says on the package, 'delighting my family and my guests the Norwegian way!'
Thanks for turning me on to a new eating experience.
One question - is there a specific type of wine or beer that would be traditional to enjoy with Brunost?

I'm not a big wine or beer drinker, but I don't think there are any that are considered particularly good with brunost. If someone invited you to a 'cheese and wine'-do in Norway, and you brought brown cheese they'd look at you and raise their eyebrows.
I feel privileged to have inspired you to try it though. And I'm glad you liked it.
For Norwegians it's an everyday food and considered a bit boring. On the other hand it is, by various people, considered an indispensible companion to rolls, open faced sandwiches, waffles, lutefisk, and 'lefse'. Some weirdos have been known to put jam or jelly on it, like in a peanutbutter and jelly sandwich. It is also supposedly a positive experience in venison sauces.
Me, I have it on my lunch sandwiches every day.

And WHAT is wrong about putting jam on it? It just gets better that way.
As for drink, I always have brunost with a glass of milk, alternatively chocolate milk.

It's heresy is what it is. And I don't like jam much. :D
