Haggis ingredients
toybox Started conversation Sep 16, 2009
Mmmh, I recently bought some haggis, and here is what was written on the back of the tin:
Ce produit contient le gluten
La recette ne contient pas des écrous
Produit dans une usine d'écrou librement
Ne peut pas garantir l'écrou librement
Which is translated from:
This product contains gluten
Recipe does not contain nuts
Produced in a nut-free factory
cannot guarantee nut-free.
Only, "écrou" is this sort of nut: http://www.fasteners-cn.fr/3_nut/3_nut_b.jpg
I bloody well hope the product is nut-free

Having some idea of the ingredients of haggis, I'm surprised it wasn't a completely different sort of nuts...

Presumably the translation was commissioned in Scotland, where the haggis was made and packaged.

Re Post 6 - I'm afraid my mind was running on similar lines. I was kind of afraid to click on that link.

Well, if it had been *that* kind of nuts, it would have been a lie to write that it was nutfree, no?

i recently heard a newly discovered ancient recipe suggests haggis is actually not a scottish but an english invention
after dining in a number of english restaurants i'd say it sounds plausible

That's a brilliant translation...
... but haggis in a tin?
And if the factory is nut-free - surely half of it would fall apart?

From what I remember, though, can't you get them vacuum-packed?
