The body of DNA is dead ... his work lives on .. the problem is there will be no more ....

Having been someone who went through their teens just as the HH guides were comming out and was (an still am) a huge DNA fan. The problem is this . I've just downloaded the audio book (from itunes) of "the salmon of doubt" and sitting here listening to has made me realize , sadly that that it is ! . Of course i was upset to hear of DNA's death as were millions of people but I actually hadn't read "Last chance to see" yet and I was still reading the Long dark tea time of the soul , so It didn't quite sink in that he'd gone. Then last year, when on holiday in New York, I bought a copy of Salmon of doubt and read half of it before dropping to into a swimming pool. So its taken me this long to finally read (or in this case listen to) Salmon of Doubt. ..... I'm finding it deeply depressing... although I'm smiling and laughing out load at bits i've read many times before , It is with a heavy heart that I slowly realise that I don't want to read (or listen to) the last chapter... you know where i'm going .
Has anyone else found this with SOD and if so how did you get over it ? I could read HHG again but i've read them all 10 times plus and had the radio tapes for a long time so probably know every line now ...

please help

I admit to doing exactly the same thing, there are still a few pages of SoD I haven't read and are likely to remain unread for some time. I just can't quite bring myself to read them. smiley - sadface

Ditto. Although I did finish the book, I just read as slowly as possible, and went back and re-read some bits to make it last longer.

I've read HHGG and the Dirk Gently's countless times, but Last Chance and Salmon only once each.

I re-read the books only occasionally, usually there's enough time inbetween that I've forgotten some bits and enjoy discovering them all over again. In the meantime, I spend *a lot* of time here, contributing to his legacy, which keeps me sated.

Welcome to the community!

I also cried when I finished the Salmon of Doubt. The good thing about his books is they are a good read, no matter how many times you've read them before. My personal favorite is Last Chance To See. I actually have a couple signed first editions of it.

There were a couple up for bid at bookfinder.com and I wanted to make sure I got it so I bid on both - and ended up with them both. They're now worth several times what I paid for them originally.
