abbi normal "Putting on the Ritz" with Dr Frankenstein Started conversation Apr 5, 2004
I had a weird episode today.
It happened before and was so scary that I completely blocked it.
I could not read for a while. Minutes to a half hour.Never ( oops well obviously once before)have I not had a clue as to how to *pronounce or recognize every word I see*!
Seem to be fine in the head now except for headache.
I have had a great deal of trouble making sense of words for short spells and spelling is foriegn at times.
Numbers have had no meaning briefly.
Often have a hard time writing sense at times due to a combo sleep deprivation and brain injury(i think).
I have had trouble understanding what I hear briefly.
I have been totally lost when I should have known my surroundings a few times before.
All since the lightning strike and minor strokes
Anyway, since I had dismissed it before I thought it best to document it in my journal because I could esily "forget again".
If it happens again I will go to the emergency room otherwise I see on Tuesday .

Hi Abbi, I had been wondering how you are in general - haven't seen you for some days. I'm virtually living online at the moment, so I thought you might have been away?
That is scarey about not being able to read. I have very mild experiences of the other things you talk about - not being able to make sense of words, or especially spoken words sometimes. Having a full half hour of that would be intense.
Was the rest of your body ok in that time?
Do you think as Jazz suggests that it is a med side effect?

Hi Kea - I have not been around too much. I have not felt well and had more serious problems in general , especially with weakness in my legs.
I did wonder if seizure medication ( or a seizure)could do that.
They affect your brain but normally teh side affects for me have been senses or sleepiness-dizzy or tremor which I have not had with this new one. I am scheduled to be upped in dosage this week.

Thanks jaZZ and Pheloxi
I am more relaxed than I usually am because
Twinny is doing better finallyand that has been a Big stress for years!
It is an emotional Sad anniversaries time of year.
I am not feeling particuarly weird, depressed or anything negative.
Could be affecting me more than I realise though.
I suppose it could bring on physical stress symptoms of a new kind.

That does NOT sound fun, and under the risk of sounding like everyone else, go get it checked girl (or judging by recent test results sir). I hope it won't be a horrible reoccuring annoyance, but still have a
and a
to make you feel better.

Quite right. We wouldn't want to think that for long periods of time you'd be isolated from anything written... including hootoo.

Abbi, that does sound scary. I can only relate to that when I have a cold, if you don't have that as an excuse then please get it checked out. Was that a possible side-effect of the new medication?
I sincerely hope that it doesn't happen again.

That sounds nasty Abbi. Definitely get it checked out!
It does sound a bit like the 'aura' that accompanies migraine, but go and find out for sure!

Hey! Leo sighting!!!*waves*
As everyone says, yes, get it checked out. As i said to abbi in her email, quite coincidentally (I assume?) i had an evil migraine a few days back, which produced the same sort of thing; as Leo says; often migraines can do this, I haven't had one for ages, but when i was younger (& not on medication) i had ones that resembled mini-strokes, virtually blind, loss of senstion on one side, unable to pronounce words even though i knew exactly what i wanted to say. The fact you got a headache too might mean this is what it is; did you get weird zigzag patterns first? But see the doc to make sure; please!
take care abbi, we all need you !!!

Thanks Leo YAY
I have lots of migraine auras and fortunately usually without the migraine these past years. The "norm" has always included sensory--definitely eyes and ears and balance and numbeness.
I had none of those yesterday.
I am glad to know not recognizing any words *could be* lumped into that also. I am certainly fine now, writing it in my journal guarantees I will not deny it

My vision was perfectly clear.
When I have a migraine - I normally cannot read due to vision and if I try I will vomit and/or get dizzy. It was not like that.
