I just keep my watch on GMT--but I better remember to mentally switch from subtrating four hours to subtracting five. Thanks.

Do you work away from home then?

Quite honestly the idea of the country changing the clocks twice a year is totally ludicrous. I know the reason behind it but it still seems bizarre to me.smiley - erm

Sort of--I'm a high school student.

Well, obviously we have to switch the time twice a year--how else would people remember to change their smoke alarm batteries?

What's bizarre about having more hours of light to work in, Ms. Mort?

I'm with you all the way on this one, Mort.

I wrote in my journal about 'the killing hour' earlier this year. The hour back isn't so bad, but the hour forwards means many folk rushing to work late and having had a lack of sleep.

We don't gain anything since we lose an hour for one day in spring and gain it for one day in autumn.

If folk want to make use of longer days of sunlight, surely it is more sensible that they get up earlier. The arguement about difficulties in shopping, banking etc no longer apply thanks to extended opening hours and the internet.

Rant over.

Absolutely.

With the longer working hours we all have (my average shift was 8.30am to 6.15pm) then it makes little difference to working lives. It is dark when we get up and dark when we get home. Going back in winter to have more daylight in the morning means it is darker when the kids come home from school. It would be better to have a tiny bit longer daylight in the evenings for the kids to get home safely. Parents are more likely to take their kids to school on the way to work, but will not be finished in time to pick them up so they get the bus or walk home.

And for those few people that actually do work more sensible hours, I think they would prefer to have daylight when they are not at work rather then spend it at work when they are likely to be stuck in an office full of artificial lighting anyway.
