4 hours of screaming

No matter what I did last night Summer screamed for 4 hours last night.
First it was wind, got that sorted. Then she was sick - Lots. One change of clothes and nappy change.
2 hours later she wanted feeding again but I hadn't set up the steriliser so had to put up with the screams and fidgets whilst the bottles were sterilised and then having to wait for the feed to cool down.
Even after feeding her again she started to scream. I tried everything. Picking her up, leaving her, swaddling her, the dreaded dummy, singing to her (which does usually put her to sleep). In the end I decided I couldn't cope on my own so made my way up the stairs. I got to the landing and was just about to wake Neal up when, and you guessed it, she shut up.
She woke me up at 8am this morning a little grizzly so I set to in sorting out a meal for her then whilst that was cooling, sorted out her nappy. Oh my God! It was so heavy with wee! I have never seen such a full nappy before. I took her nappy off and decided to see if she would tolerate being bare bottomed for a short while. She didn't. Off she went. The screaming went to a whole new level and she decided to have another wee which went on to her sleep suit so had to set to in cleaning that up, undressing and re-dressing her to which she most definitely stated her objections.
Just getting the poppers sorted on her sleep suit when Super Dad appeared. He came over, gave me a kiss, picked up baby an sat down to feed her.
He took one look at me and said bed. I wasn't going to argue. I've only just got up to find Neal, Summer and Els (Neal's eldest) have all gone out and I have a deserted house.

Baby's can *scream*
I still my eldest's scream (he's 19 now).
I sometimes had to just leave him in his bouncer chair for 10 mins while I snuck in the back and a had a ciggie (blessed relief after 5 months without*)
*I stopped as soon as I realised I was preggers, but as that 4 and a half months in...

Erm, when I say stopped, I don't mean completely...
..I switched to one or three rollies a day...
Still think they're better for me than manufactured crepe.

G'day all! Remember me? Just popped in to lurk for a while and saw that Summer has arrived It couldn't happen to a nicer family!
Congratulations!!!
What a lucky little girl to have such a fabulous mother and a super grandmother.
Can I drop a helpful hint from my grandmother? Dill water for wind, colic etc.
Just make a tea of dill and water (dried or fresh) boil it up and then strain it and boil it down to a stronger solution . Bottle and store in the fridge. When needed add a spoonful or 2 to boiled water and give it to bub (or adult - I've used it for colic myself - it's miraculous!) Totally safe and you can't overdose and no side effects
BTW - I'm fine - still looking after Mum who is doing really well - but with Mum and all the housework etc and my job I don't have time for h2g2 - but I still think about you all
Love to all who remember .....

ah, memories, and just when it all quietens down you start looking at new babies in prams and get all misty-eyed, long nights of broken sleep forgotten, and the yearnings for #2 (#3, #4 in my case) start... strange, the #2 yearning never hit my #1 daughter, her son is now almost 17 and just started college. And he was a GOOD baby, I mean, slept right through from 4 weeks old, she was back at work as if she'd never been away in no time. I was his granny nanny and things went well until potty-training time, but that's a story for another day
Love (and patience and sleep) to all, be kind to each other even when your nerves are frayed, accept ALL the help you're offered, and it's an old wives tale that sleep can be "made up", it can't.

eldest monster didnt sleep through the night even once until he was over one...
but it dosn't last forever one day they are a screaming little baby then they grow into a toddler that dashes around the house and only stops to turn red in the face and do a poo....
and eventually I assume they grow into adults but i dont see how that changes anything...
what I was trying to say is, it gets better as long as she's healthy and you are healthy

Ah the joys of screaming come rolling back down the years! Number one Daughter did a lot of that. Rocking of the pram never worked; she had to be going somewhere. The only way I/we found was to put her in the car, leave the drive to go onto the road and lo and behold, within two or three minutes; as if by the noise stopped and she would be fast asleep.
