VV, once you have antibiotics it gets better in a day or two. I had this a lot when I was 16, swallowing a sip of water is like trying to swallow broken glass. Maybe try tiny spoonfuls of ice-cream, and let them melt in your mouth. I also used to suck ice-cubes, the cold will help numb the imflammation for a bit, so its ideal before having to take pills.

I continued to have this problem for 15 years afterwards due to a lowered immune system. I first got it after a spell in hospital with severe depression and something like glandular fever. So when you get over this, try everything you can to boost your immune system. Lots of ginger, garlic, make sure you are having enough fresh fruit and veg etc etc. This maybe a one off for you, but due to your depression, it may not be, so fight it now. Don't mean to worry you, but best to be prepared and the extra ginger etc will be great for your health anyway.

I think I must be allergic to it or something. The spray that is, not tonsillitis!

But mind you, I agree with what Kaz says. When you're run down, loads of things seem to bombard you.

Haven't had tonsillitis for around 10 years until now!

I'd recommend gargling every hour or so...
with Jack and his brother Daniel's fine Kentucky sourmash whis...err...mouthwash.
Nice thing about it is you don't have to spit it out!

If it doesn't cure the tonsils, it's guaranteed to give you a sexy rasping voice like Janis Joplin, and that'll get you all the sympafy you'll ever need...and more! smiley - ok
