How Do I Categorize A Guide Entry?
Doug_the_Cat_Lover Started conversation Sep 18, 2005
Are only edited guide entries categorized into Life/the Universe/Everything? If not, how do I categorize my entry (How To Avoid Ravonous Bugblatter Beasts of Traal)? Or is it already categorized?

The categorisation system is, broadly speaking, only for Edited Entries. Your entry's still part of the Guide, though, like all entries

Traveller in Time trying to find a way in the categorisation system
"That is just why the other platforms are there.
We have < <./>ThePost</.> > for more or less temporary informative entries, your entry will get classified somewhere in the archives.
We also have The < <./>UnderGuide</.> > and the < <./>AGGGAG</.> >, mining the < Writing-Alternative > Forum.
I think the latter would fit your work "

Put in simple terms
The Edited Guide is a *factual guide to earth*.
However there are several places on h2g2 that promote fictional writing.
Such as the <./>Underguide</.> and <./>thepost</.> (which TiT mentioned) although they are mainly for creative writing like poetry and short stories.
All of the site's creative work is selected from the alternative writing workshop ( the link is <./>writing-alternative</.> ) So if you wish, you could submit the entry there. (You will find an option to submit for review on the actual entry itself.)
However your entry can be seen by anyone who uses the <./>search</.> facility to find *non EG entries* on Ravonous Bugblatter Beasts of Traal.
So even though it is not part of the Guide to Earth, it is part of h2g2 anyway.
As mentioned, the <./>writing-guidelines</.> explain what kind of entries make it into the official Edited Guide.
Everyday the <./>frontpage</.> displays the latest entries that enter the Edited Guide so if you haven't already, it is well worth bookmarking that page.

FAO TiT,
I know you are always so keen to help and it is always appreciated.
But if you have a look at my reply and yours, (for a newbie) you will see how much more 'user friendly' mine is to yours. We get so used to the ways of h2g2, that some things seem obvious to us, but for a stranger to the site, then being clear and direct is much more helpful.
I am used to your cryptic comments - and they do come across as cryptic! - but newbies who haven't a clue about h2g2 may get a bit confused if they are not used to your way of communicating.
Any help is always appreciated by all of the volunteer groups. I think if you were a little less convoluted with your answers then your help would be more understood.
I certainly don't mean to cause offence. You dedicate alot of time to helping out on the site. I am simply trying to offer some advice from an experienced volunteer

Hello Doug!
I have just left you an <./>ACE</.> message of welcome into h2g2. Hopefully it will assist your passage around the site.
If you follow things through it will explain the different areas where you can submit your entries.
Basically, everthing submitted becomes part of the Guide.
Edited Guides are factual items and put before Peer Review.
I would personally suggest your item would be suitable for the Alternative Writing Workshop.
lil xx

Traveller in Time reading on another level
"The question was about how to catgorise an entry besides getting it in the Edited Guide.
My short answer was to give some hints as to where there are other semi-official categorisations.
Thanks for the verbose clarifications "

Traveller in Time on the off chance 'Doug_the_Cat_Lover' already stopped being informed of this
"Not, conversations are here to stay forever.
Just concider not asking is worse than asking 'the obvious'
I still regret my very first posting to this site. Never mind, it becomes all part of our legacy, and in a few years you will just smile ."
