Then there's the spelling of ...
On the subject of English:

(This clip leaves out the next line, where John Adams mutters, 'I'll speak to the printer.')
Leading to the movement to fix the Jefferson Memorial:

Nice post Ben

Robbie in particular has sent out some very clear messages to the Core Team about what is and is not in the spirit of h2g2.
<<
Any chance of sharing some of that with the wider community at some point?

Shouldn't that be "Why can't we just do what we've always done and wait and see and argue in the meantime?"

Wikipedia seems to get along fine with their language policy. In short:
- No preferred national variety of English
- Articles should be internally consistent
- If there are strong national ties to a topic, that variety of English should be used.
Perfect common sense, as far as I'm concerned.

"Then there's the spelling of ... "
I did notice that, but didn't think it worth correcting - and I didn't think anyone would be rude enough to mention it.
And, according to Oxford, the words 'inalienable' & 'unalienable' are synonymous http://oxforddictionaries.com/definition/unalienable so there!

Is it just me, or is anyone else finding the site incredibly slow today?
End with an anagram: USA English ~ languishes

if internet sites are wise to take inspiration from us, h2g2

What a very strange thing to say.
It astonishes me that people wouldn't understand when you really love something, nay are really in love with something, you wouldn't be very unhappy indeed if you feared for that thing.
So yes you do hang around. just the way I was brought up and live my life.

How long have you got?
And do you really expect me to suddenly spew out a novel?
I've been here around 8 years in total on and off I think.
I'll think about it.
(I've always been crap at soundbites).

Having waded through the pages and pages of backlog, the insults, the attacks, the changes, and the clever comments that actually help i have a few comments of my own.
Firstly, I'm slightly worried that a thread on a reasonably minor detail, has turned into such hostility by certain people, and worse, it has so many posts that it is the 2nd most active thread - I always point my newbies to read some of the top 20 threads - great example this one has turned into
Secondly, this is not the be all and end all, had we dozens of subs and CEs from every corner of both the english and non-english speaking world, then entries of all different writing types could come in
But at the moment, we have american SVs and a potential 300,000,000 researchers, best to try and make use of them

On the contrary, I'm encouraged by the heatedness here. It shows how much people *care*
This thread being ignored or fizzling out quickly would what would worry me...

I was thinking it was a good bit of irony myself, ruin my brilliant conceptions of our writers
If we are bickering about new accepted versions of English, can i recommend chav? Or maybe text speak?
