I do hope no one thinks I went to all those lengths just for a groan at the end, though.

I was actually trying to make one of my general observations about Life the Uni et al. That UFOlogy has become an insidious form of 'religion' to the secular masses, especially those exposed to heavy doses of film and tv. It isn't just the pure SCI FI shows pumping out this 'hope' for help from higher powers crap. There's a very fine line between 'Touched By an Angel' and 'Oddyssey 5' or 'Tracker'.
Remember Scott Bakula in 'Quantum Leap' who popped in just in time to change the past for the better...? Well he's Captain of the Enterprise now. Coincidence? I think not!

I was trying to point out that there has actually been a loss of Faith in Improbabilty. Chance and Luck don't have the lure or lustre they once held. Instead they are subordinated to back-up systems, contingency plans, first-aid training, sprinkler systems and a general hedging of bets. People have lost Faith in the beneficious random act. Clouds now have a stainless steel lining.

But Life remains totally unpredictable. Nothing ever goes as planned. The unexpected always happens. The more improbable an event, the less likely anyone has planned for it, and the more likely it will occur. I think that's what DNA was trying to tell us. And I believe it.
