Well, P.G. Wodehouse is English comedy, but he's *very* funny. I'd highly recommend his books. And, of course, if you haven't yet read the entire Douglas Adams canon (Hitchhiker's, Dirk Gently, etc.) there's that.

I'm getting a lot of books for christmas. lets see: odyssey, iliad, tale of two cities, the bible, and something about the psychological effect of humour. thats only the stuff I know I'm getting
