All this happens?

Ahh! I always forget what we know and what we don't know. We don't really know WHY Voldemort wanted to kill Harry in the first place, do we? I'm hoping that in all those 1200 pages of book 5, this will be revealed.

My theory is rather straight forward and not very intriguing at all. I'm thinking something Macbethian in that it was revealed that Harry Potter would be the one person who could stop Voldemort's rise to power and so he set out to get him out of the way. Like I said, not very interesting at all.

Well J K said she would reveal why Harry could stop Voldemort and I think it may be in book 6!

I think it's that Harry is Voldemort's long lost brother, or cousin, or pet tarantula. ( I hate Spiders! I'm a Ron!)

There's some interesting stuff here. It could well be that Harry and Voldemort are related, couldn't it. We don't know the name of Voldemorts mother.
Apparently, Vol de Mort can mean Flight from Death, or Theif of Death in French, or possibly Lord of Evil.
There are a lot of definitions of HP names at
http://www.geocities.com/wizardworldweb/dictionary2.html
Hermione is the name of the daughter of Helen of Troy, who was loved by two men who fought over her. A clue there, maybe?

Thanks for that!
I read someones theory from a website page a friend sent me. S/he thinks that Voldemort possibly had a sister who married a man called Potter. They had a son; James who married Lily Evans and they had a son; Harry... so that could be the connection between Voldemort and Harry. Remember, Voldemore killed all the Potters (Harry aside) He did not want to kill Lily (She's no blood relation)
Voldemort's followers are called Death Eaters, as you said; Voldemort could translate to theif of death. We know Voldemort wants immortal life and they way to do that is to kill all blood relatives. That explains why he killed James, didn't want to kill Lily and tried to kill Harry.
Could be fairly accurate or just totally wrong!

That's a pretty good theory, but (and this is only my opinion) I think that for Voldemort to not want to kill Lily, there must be a stronger reason than she wasn't a blood relative. Part of the problem I'm having is remembering what we've already been told and what we're waiting to find out. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Voldemort specifically after Harry when he killed James and Lily? That's always the impression I've had.

In the Philosophers Stone, Voldemort says "I killed your father first and he put up a courageous fight...but your mother needn't have died...she was trying to protect you."
So it seems he was specifically after Harry and not too bothered either way about Lily. It implies that he wanted to kill James too, I think.
On another matter
In the Chamber of Secrets, Malfoy told Harry and Ron (disguised as Crabbe and Goyle) that his father's house had been searched, but they hadn't found anything because he kept all his Dark Arts stuff under a trap door. Later, Ron said he was going to tell his father about it and get him to search the Malfoys again. But I don't think we ever heard any more about that. It's unusual for JKR to leave any loose ends. Have I missed something?

First of all, something i spotted that I haven't seen anywhere else is that Mr Ollivanders name refers to elephants. (elephants never forget and he remembers all his wand sales!) Im not sure what language it comes from but i noticed it in the lord of the rings movie (second one) when they see a giant elephant, and refer to it as an ollifant or something similair like that so maybe its norwegian.
Secondly is a reason why harry will be able to kill voldemort or at least have some protection from him.
Harry saved pettigrews life, thus forming a magical bond between them, right, a BLOOD bond. When voldemort in book 4 restores his life in the cauldron, he cleverly uses harrys blood. He can now touch harry without being harmed, he is immune to harrys defence thing that his mother gave him. However he does not seem to notice that he has uses Pettigrews blood. Pettigrews blood contains a magical bind to harry. So now voldemort has entered a "magical contract" with harry. It is as if harry saved voldemorts life and therefore voldemort might not be able to hurt harry. Does anyone think this is possible or true?

It seems that a lot of thought has gone into these names, then.
I hadn't thought about the fact that Pettigrew's blood went into Voldemort. It might well affect Voldemort's ability to kill Harry. Good point!

Just out of curiousity, What do you think Dumbledore sent Snape to do at the end of book 4? I've thought about it and can come up with no out of the ordinary explanation.

Eccentra Posted May 6, 2003
I've wondered about that, too, and I've really been wondering how all that happened at the end of book four will affect the relationship between Harry and Snape. Only a little over a month til we find out all the goodies! The new Defense Against the Dark Arts prof is a woman, I've heard AND, as has been reported, Dumbledore will be telling Harry everything. Hopefully it will be everything and not nearly everything, if you know what I mean.

The thing about pettigrew is that it is the "FLESH of a servant, willingly given" NOT blood, though maybe accidently blood was there too, but it was FLESH, in the spell!!

I thought Voldemort made Pettigrew chop his hand off and he gave him a new silver hand? Its been while since i read the 4th book.

Eccentra Posted May 8, 2003
It was his hand and he did get a new silver one. So, yeah...I think there'd be some blood included in the whole hand.
