Another part of the Scouts' role is trawling the non-Edited Guide for excellent entries that haven't made it to Peer Review, perhaps because the author has moved on, or because they don't know about Peer Review. It's not just Scouts who are welcome to do this – anyone who finds an undiscovered gem of an entry that deserves to go into the Edited Guide should put the entries into an appropriate forum by clicking on the 'Submit for Review' button.<<<

(my opinion is that people shouldn't put something in PR if the author doesn't want to...)

Last time I did this, I was almost drummed out of the site.

I'd like to think it's the sort of thing that anyone can do, but if editing is going to be required, then it all falls over in a bit of a heap, unless we expect the sub-ed to pick it all up (which is probably a bit unfair).

Is there any merit with people submitting any discarded gems to the Flea Market instead, and then picking them up from there, according to the existing process?

Has this *ever* really been true? Submitting someone else's Entry to PR is pointless, as no-one can make changes to the Entry but the original author, who, in this context has presumably left h2g2. I'd say delete the text, or perhaps replace it with a link to the Flea Market or the Scavengers group?

Hmm, that sounds like the best thing to do.

Well, I have frequently copied and pasted an Elvised author's unedited Entry to create the basis for a new Entry, then submitted that to PR with the original author as co-author. I think this is a good way of retrieving quality Entries. I've done this with A46377769

No I meant A46435818 (Robert Burns). One of my colleagues distracted me before I could make that correction

I think Danny nailed it be honest, my opinion is that's what the Scavengers can do, and at the Volunteer and Scavengers pages it is alluded to, I think

I've put the update in Peer Review if anyone's interested (F48874?thread=6293509). It's around 500 words shorter than the current version.

I wasn't aware of the Scavengers Group

Perhaps make it clearer, somehow, that you need to submit your own Entry, generally. When I wrote my first one, I waited forever for it to be picked for PR because I assumed it was impolite to submit it myself...

Been going a while now, have had plenty of Front Page exposure (in the by-line underneath the 3 main Entries and in the 'What's New' section'. In fact I think there may even be a link in the right hand links section on the Front Page, but I could be wrong.

Well, I didn't realise that the line below the 3 Main Entries was a Scavenged Entry.

I can't see a 'What's New' section, and there isn't one down the RHS

'In fact, Scavengers scour the whole of h2g2 on the look out for any Entry that looks like it needs to be nurtured, and are encouraged to submit them into the Flea Market too, so one day it might appear in all its glory on the h2g2 Front Page as a part of the Edited Guide.'

Hmm. I must be a Scavenger, although I didn't realise it. As I said, I often spruce up Unedited Entries by Elvised Researchers (rather than from the FM) as, very often, they've worked very hard on them and only a little work is requireds to get them into the EG

'And those Scavengers with five or more rescues to their name get the honoured Official Scavenger Badge on their Personal Space too.'
