I, too, hope that this is not the future of music, or television for that matter. Consider though:
Made-on-TV Popstars concept may seem new, but previous versions probably date back to the 1950s with the Ted Mack Amateur hour.
Probably the first truly made-on-tv success was the Partridge Family.
You can't really count the Monkees, because they were radio stars with a hit record before the first show aired.
