Sadly, without reference to The Monkees, the Partridge Family and talent shows such as Opportunity Knocks and New Faces, this entry does come across as only looking at a very small part of the picture.
There was a similar entry submitted last year, 'Boy Bands & the Evolution of Manufactured Music' (A843130) which, while equally biased, does cover a lot more ground. The previous 'Peer Review' conversation contains a lot more information about some of these acts.
To be fair, 'Pop Idol' is only the latest form of these TV talent shows. Arguably, The Eurovision Song Contest is also a contributing factor - since around 1980, bands have been formed especially for the TV-based competition, Bucks Fizz for example.

I disagree, re-read the title "Made ON TV" (my caps) - The Monkees et al may have been made for TV, but Pop Stars saw the start of being madde *on* TV, where the "career" of the artist is often longer prior to winning than it is afterwards.

Thanks for the input guys. It's my first real try at writing anything for the guide so i'll try to take on board what you are saying.
If so required I will do some extra research into the whole "Where did Popstars originate from?" issue.
I also realise that there have been many made for tv pop acts (ie S Club 7), so I tried to differentiate from that.

You should also be sure to approach this as a factual piece - no 1st person, and neutralise some of the opinion.
