We first met in the beginning,
Before the universe began;
When there were no stars or planets,
And no creature known as man.
There was no good, no evil,
No down below, no up above;
Time and space were nonexistent,
There was nothing then but love.
Since then we've traveled widely,
We've been nobles, serfs and slaves;
Glorious saints, half-crazed sinners,
Trembling cowards, heroes brave.
We've been black and red and yellow,
Male and female, rich and poor;
All that was or is or will be -
Not one whit less or more.
We've watched the sunrise in Atlantis,
Loved in Egypt, fought in Rome;
We've sailed the seas of history,
Always together, not alone.
Through happiness and sorrow,
On one thing we can depend;
We were together in the beginning,
We'll be together in the end.

That's terrific, wow! Too bad they don't put poems in the edited guide, or anything fun *mumbles curses*
I liked it, could get in to the post

Thanks. I enjoy writing poetry.
Guess the powers that be think that everyone at hootoo should only be interested in writing factual articles....which really isn't my bag. So a friend told me to submit some of my poems to AWW. Maybe we'll get a venue for poetry and good fiction if enough of us show that we want one.

Well, I'm no good at writing fiction or poetry, but I certainly enjoy reading them, I'd support it
(Keep me posted)

I like this Hypatia - it is light, elegant, well structured, and just the right length. I guess you know the couple of lines which twitch slightly from the rhyme or the rhythm, and I can't think of a simple way of improving them. I also like the way it trips through history, and the images it invokes. Well done!
The Post is sure to like this. And do take a look at the MSN site about the underguide. The first thing you will find is a page listing links back here.
If there was and Underguide / when there is an Underguide, this entry gets my vote.
Thanks for posting it.

I looked at the MSN site and will definitely go back there when I have more time. Thanks for telling me about it.
And Ben, thanks for the kind words. Do you really think the Post would like it? And since it is in AWW, would I need to send it to the Post besides, or do they check out the AWW entries?
Sorry to be so dumb about all of this. But I'm learning...with help from friends.

I definitely think the Post would like it.
It is probably quickest for you to drop by there yourself. They are very pushed for time, and so far as I know, don't really spend much time here in AWW.
Don't worry about asking questions, that is what we are here for. The only dumb question is the one you don't ask!
I look forward to reading more of your poems.

It's so nice to meet someone who likes poetry. I'm really hoping the Under Guide will take off. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. And I'll definitely read the blog at AWW.

Read and comment! Don't forget to comment!
Say if you would vote for a piece. Don't say if you wouldn't because that is rude. If you really hate a piece, I guess you would have to say so... Use your judgement!
At first we were concerned that people would be more defensive about their work here than in PR, but so far either we have not been as fierce as they can be in PR, or else people have been more open to comment here. Mind you - an awful lot of what is good in here is written by people who have left the building, (can we have an Elvis smiley, do you think?)
There is no need to comment on everything you find in here, but the more people commenting the better for authors, the better for AWW, the better for the Post, and eventually the better for the Underguide.

Bumping this criminally forgotten piece back into radar range.
This was beautifully written, and I loved the imagery (especially the last verse)
Thanks for writing this

UnderGuide Editors Posted Nov 23, 2003
Congratulations! Your Guide Entry has been picked from the Alternative Writing Workshop (AWW) by our miners and has been accepted by the editors for inclusion in the H2G2 UnderGuide! It will be featured on H2G2's front page in due course and then be displayed on the shelves of the UnderGuide.
More information on the UnderGuide can be found at A1103329. And to check what happens next go to 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at A1096544. A helpful friendly Gem Polisher will be dropping by your personal space soon to talk to you about the next stage of the process. Eventually, your entry will be included in the UnderGuide Archives at <./>C1233</.>
It would help the miners in their search for new UnderGuide entries in the AWW if you would consider taking this version of your entry out of the AWW. This can be done by clicking on the 'X' or 'Remove' on the AWW page at <./>RF5</.>
Thank you for contributing to the UnderGuide!

Another one that I was guilty of reading and not commenting on. But part of the reason I comment is when I percieve a need or desire for critical feedback. This came across as very polished and self assured. But I enjoyed reading it (better to say it late than never) and I'm glad it got mined.

Thanks everyone. I wrote this when my husband was so ill and it looked like he wasn't going to make it. He believes strongly in reincarnation and I knew that he would like the poem.

( I will love you forever then my ghost will love your ghost.)
Yes, I understand completely. She believes, rather vaguely, in reincarnation. If it is so I know that my soul will find her soul wherever and whenever it should reappear.
