Well I was half right. Your turn EncyBass.

If anyone cares, the last set that I posted were from The Queen is Dead by Morrissey or The Smiths, can't remember which.

EncyBass-: Not going to be around much next week, cos I've got a new job...

That was just a random guess!
Ok, how's about this one:
In the tree by the brook
There's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our words are misgivings

(easy one to get meself warmed up)

How about:

"And it's a battered old suitcase
in a hotel someplace
And a wound that would never heal
No prima donnas the perfume is on
and old shirt that is stained with blood and whiskey"

Right well of the last two sets posted, Egon's come from "Tom Traubert's Blues/Waltzing Matilda" which was sung by Rod Stewart, but I don't think he wrote it.

And Compo's set come from a song about riding a tandem that I had on a cassette when I was little, but the title and band name escapes me for the minute.

And as for football teams, Brentford, Queen of the South and Heart of Midlothian. Its a recipe for suicide.

Don't you know, y'old fool,
You never can win
Use your mentality
Come back to reality

This one's a true classic- any guesses?

Perseus- Twas indeed Tom Trauberts Blues (Four Sheets To the wind in Copenhagen)(Waltzing Matilda), originally by Tom Waits.

I think this is the U2 version of 'I've got you under my skin' but that's 'wake up to reality', so I'm not sure. It was originally Frank Sinatra (I think), but the lyrics were slightly different again, and I think the ones you've given are closest to U2.
