This is my first attempt at a recipe for the EG, so go easy!
(I realise there's a little contention around that recipes may not have a place in the EG, but hey, who am I to avoid contention )

Sorry - that last post wasn't very constructive...
The only thing I can think of is - is there any difference between Hawaiian and Mexican papayas?
Otherwise, good entry

all. It is rather yum
The Liquid Smoke disappeared because it's purely found in the US as far as I'm aware, whereas BBQ Sauce is more global, plus Liquid Smoke is a brand name and we can't have it on the Beeb
Difference between Hawaiian and Mexican? Dunno, I'll find out!

I hope my comment wasn't too far-fetched, i just noticed the original recipe included the liquid smoke. (somehow the idea of liquid smoke makes me imagine an odd farm scene, smoke trees or somethin')
Don't mean to chitchat on your pr, I should research LS!
Well written, and readable. Nice mention on the latex thing, (who knew?!) The 'I felt fine' in the original was a bit too funny for a realistic warning.
Is the revised recipe one that you know works?
There is no reason to be concerned that the Guide should have recepies, moreover that is the sort of primary detail that a researcher should note! If a Human is ever 'hitching on an unknown world an effective meat tenderixer would be quite helpful.

Oh, I get it. But liquid smoke and BBQ sauce are hardly interchangeable. More sugar n stuff in BBQ, LS is a black liquid (i wanna say distillate) that tastes like burnt wood smells!

neon -
I was worried about the Liquid Smoke thing at first, and having seen the recipe in the Flea Market a while ago, I thought I'd give it a go. Not having Liquid Smoke I indeed substituted the stuff for BBQ sauce. Worked a treat!
I also used canned papaya instead of fresh, and that worked as well
Ah, cooking is such a fine art isn't it

Hi MJ, nice recipe, I'd say. Don't you think it would be a good idea to put the steak on your list of ingredients ? Maybe suggesting its size/weight? I tend to go through the ingredients list when cooking something new, and have had a bad surprise or two when starting to cook, and suddenly coming across something that hasn't been mentioned before or at all even Can spoil everything.

I suppose you could supplement the steak with pork chops...never thought of that. Might try it one day, if I liked pork.
Of course, it's not for vegetarians at all is it

Can just imagine you stalking around the supermarkets, war paint on your face and a spear at the ready, hunting down the ever elusive papaya...
