I feel compelled to suggest Kurt Vonnegut for a good read. What's more : he is still getting better ! Check out HocusPocus and/or Timequake...and of course Slaughterhouse Five will never ever die as it is inseparably connected to this century/WW II.

Still, I would recommend HocusPocus first, if just because it is funny as Hell but it still makes you contemplate the madness of this world...something we all do now and again I assume... It's nice to be able to laugh about it sometimes...

Oh and talking about slaughterhouse Five : I have nothing against Americans but I can't understand why they would want to ban this book. It's beyond a doubt one of the most important american works written in this century...
