Parser bug
SEF Started conversation Jan 11, 2003
U180644 found an interesting parser bug the other day but didn't visibly explore it.
(F82761?thread=235770),
(F82761?thread=235770)
F82761?thread=235770),
F82761?thread=235770)
F82761?thread=235770,
F82761?thread=235770
It's obviously all in the comma somehow!
F82761?thread=235770#,
F82761?thread=235770#
F82761?thread=235770&,
F82761?thread=235770&
F82761?thread=235770?,
F82761?thread=235770?
F82761?thread=235770+,
F82761?thread=235770+
F82761?thread=235770-,
F82761?thread=235770-
F82761?thread=235770_,
F82761?thread=235770_
It's extended by switch characters but ? is terminally confused.
F82761?thread=235770?),
F82761?thread=235770?)
F82761?thread=235770?#,
F82761?thread=235770?#
F82761?thread=235770)?,
F82761?thread=235770)?
F82761?thread=235770,?
F82761?thread=235770)&#)?),
Ooh, I like that last one. Poor old bracket!

Yeah, what characters should be included in links has always been a problem. Jim has tried to make it logical, but it seems there is still a major problem. Good find!!

It wasn't me but U180644 (= whisky) when typing a thread URL for Mina.

One I've seen somewhere, that you missed:
-F12345?thread=12345
I think that won't parse as a link.

Presumably Jim already knows that there are still parser problems then and wouldn't be pleased to have attention drawn to it again...

So what's the best way of going about it then? - meaning either reporting this sort of bug or annoying Jim. Take your pick!

You could report this bug at <./>Feedback-Bugs</.>, and that would probably annoy Jim anyway...

Or we could be good, responsible members of the h2g2 community and find the old thread and just helpfully update it with the current situation...

...and how likely is that then? - meaning either being good, responsible members of the community or finding the old thread!
PS it would be necessary to check whether the old thread popped up in Jim's conversation list as he might have unsubscribed. In view of my campaign I think I'll have to start referring to this as "doing a dolphin". So to rephrase: what if Jim has done a dolphin on parser bugs?!

doing a dolphin it it. I did find a similar thread. It was about anchors (#), such as A123456#section2 which will stop being a link at the #, the only way round it is to use < ./ >'s around the whole thing. That's not really the thread we want, mina did it, not jim, anyway. (it is now on the feature list to fix the #'s) I'll try searching again tomorrow.
