Another phenomenon which you can laugh off as fiction, but deep down you know it's true.

I have always believed that fairies are sweet, good, and kind, with gossamer wings and magic wands, and grant wishes.
Are you sure the leads aren't tangled up by a goblin or leprechaun? My theory is that it is actually an Italian goblin trying to make spaghetti.

Why would an Italian goblin want to make spaghetti? They grow it out there.
I think that the Lead entanglement fairy may have an oposing number. I have never encountered the fairy in my home but when I visit my mother it seem they have a 'Tidying fairy' that always washes the cup I leave on the draining board, ensures my slippers are not by the kitchen counter but by the front door, and most magically of all always opens the curtains in the spare bedroom and makes the bed when I leave it looking less than perfect.
Perhaps we should have a whole load of fairy entries.

That would be your fairy (god)mother.

She's definately a fairy. Goblins are the ones who just make your TV stop working for no good reason. The Fairy is a good fairy - she is trying to teach us that such electrical decedance is bad for our mental health. Goblins are destructive

Maybe there should be an entry on Borrowers, which i have certainly encountered. Haven't read the kids books though so I'm not qualified to write that entry. I'm going away for a week now on me hols so will catch up with y'all later.

This fairy has definitely been under my desk.
Probably related to the car-key gnomes I saw in a Gary Larson cartoon, who sneak in and look for the best place to hide the car keys.
The Geordian knot is how Geordies like their ties to look - I believe you meant the Gordian Knot see http://www.geocities.com/~jlhagan/fineart/gallery3.htm

I think the title needs changing to "The Cable Entanglement Fairy", because I came here wondering how a heavy metal which used to be present in petrol could be entangled...
You might like to link to A650675, because if you're the sort of person who owns a multiple remote, you've probably got enough kit to keep the fairy working double shifts.
It mentions the Good Luck Fairy as someone we've all heard of. Well, I haven't. I *have* heard of the Tooth Fairy, however, and I think more people have. Or it could be just me.
You may consider it worth a footnote that in accordance with the law of opposites, there also apparently some fairy which goes round making sure things which you WANT entangled are either untied as soon as possible or impossible to tie in the first place - specifically shoelaces, roofrack straps, or the ribbons on poncy Christmas presents.

HVL Have you ever played the game where you admit the most famous books you haven't read?
I wasn't going to admit I'd never heard of the Good Luck Fairy either, but I'll stand up and be counted now. You are certainly not the only one.
also agree cable is better than lead

HVL - being as I've pretty much copied your idea on the anti-cable-entanglement fairy into the text, I've added you as a researcher. Let me know if you have any objections, and I'll change it back cheers

I'm surprised this hasn't progressed more. I like the extra links , but think it is pushing it a bit to still imply everyone has heard of the Good Luck Fairy, even with the link.
Also I'm happy to accept your fairy/goblin definition for creative and destructive aspects of life, but I wouldn't say it is a well-known universally acknowledged one, and could be rephrased to show it is a personal view of these elemental manifestations, or attribute it to a source.
the following are suggestions/typos :
mischevious > mischievous
unentangle > disentangle
mischeivousness > mischievousness

Thanks Pimms, I'll jiggle it around a bit. I'll try and find a source for the goblin/fairy thing, rather than elaborate on it in the entry :>

Maybe I should add something more factual or informative to this, maybe about how humans pretend problems aren't their fault by externalising them (of _course_ I'm twisting the cables myself, unwittingly ... or am I? etc)

Certainly - as it stands, it might not be considered suitable for the Edited Guide as it isn't *very* factually enlightening, despite being *true* in an entertaining way . It would probably get in the Alternative Guide no problem. (trust me on this)

I swear I've seen her venture outside and look at the hosepipe - it's a bit too heavy for her though.
So vindictively she tied about 18 recursive knots into my headphone lead
