Amfoot Trivia Question 0180

This one is not easy, but it's pretty straightforward:

There are two guys who have tied for the most consecutive completions in a single game. Give me the two teams that the QBs played for.

I just realized i'll have to be careful with answering otherwise you'll figure out the answer on combinations alone.
So for the time being i will say yes or no regarding the whole answer.

Anyway, sorry JD. . .nope.

22 - Joe Montana - 49ers - (17 against ?, 5 against Green Bay) (over 2 games).

I'd go with BBS on this one,
Gannon only did it last year against the Broncs?I think 21 passes.
Montanas old record was over 2 games.
Ken Anderson (A bungle!) ties with Hugh Millen Broncs,(Ive got the Broncos on the brain)
but isn't Steve Young in there also?
It highlights seeing as they're all modern game, how much different the game has become,no real legends in there at all.
And incompletitions are much more common than immediatly springs to mind.

High completion percentage has only really become a big factor since the West Coast offense. The checkdowns through 3 or 4 receivers to the dump-off to a running back in the flat, usually means a completion. In older times, balls would just be thrown down the field.

I have a suspicion Young is tied back on 20 also ...

Hmmm could this be *another* bungled question? I should actually have realised this when I first posted, but I got distracted ...

Gannon set the record for most consecutive completions in a game with 21 last year on 500th MNF. In fact, as we observed elsewhere it could have been as high as 30, as having completed his first 7 - the 8th was ruled incomplete. He then rattled off another 21 straight to get the record. Later replay showed that the incompletion was actually a completion as Charlie Garner had got two feet down before stepping out of bounds.

Monty hold the most consecutive with 22 (over 2 games against Cleveland and Green Bay).

Back on 20 (the old record) there are three people tied, all of whom have been mentioned ...

Kenny Andersen - Bengals
Steve Young - 49ers
Hugh Millen - Broncos

But Millen's was over 2 games.

If you're wondering how I suddenly came up with this knowledge, it's because I wandered into a bookshop after work and satisfied that the correct answer had already been given couldn't resist having a look at the NFL R&F book.

So Friar ... enough info given on my first answer to earn the point, or set a new one?

Friar

Sorry all not online at all yesterday. . .

BBS is right, OAKLAND and CINCI, and he is also correct that the questoin ws bungled by me (AGAIN! d'oh). because Steve Young of the 49r's tied anderson with 20.

So the correct answer was CINCI, OAKLAND, SAN FRAN, but I asked for two and BBS gave them to me, so good work (better than me in fact).

The point goes to you, good work BBS.

Without labouring the point, Gannon holds the record outright with 21 ...

I shall now put my efforts into 181 ...

Do I get half a point for being the first to mention that Steve Young was a memeber of that trio?
